- How I Did It
-
- First, if you haven't already, go ahead and take a look at the
- Boings picture using Dyna-Show (you DO have Dyna-Show, right?).
-
- Yes, that's a HiRes, Dynamic HAM raytrace. I was pretty amazed
- the first time I saw it, and this is just the first experiment.
-
- Credit where credit is due: Jim Sharrer, of Tampa Fla, gave me
- this idea when he successfully converted SuperVGA (640 x 400) Gif
- files into Dynamic HAM pics using some of the Sham (Sliced HAM)
- utilities. Look for Jim's "read.me" coming soon!
-
- Also, this wouldn't have been possible (for me anyway) without
- Troy Barlow's RGBex converter. Actually, the RGBex converter did
- ALL the work! So, if you don't have this file, FIND IT! Troy's
- address as listed in the file is P.O. Box 174, South Amboy, NJ
- 08879. His requested shareware fee is $20, and it's worth it!
- Thanks Troy; my check's in the mail!
-
- Step by step, here's what I did:
-
- Raytrace a scene in Sculpt4D. This was a scene I had handy from
- an early anim. I selected 24 bit planes, and saved the trace out
- in Sculpt's separate RGB files. The picture looks a little
- squashed from the original, because the original was overscan.
- Playing with the pixel ratios in Sculpt would probably fix that,
- but this WAS the first experiment.
-
- Then, I started Troy's RGBex program, and converted the Sculpt
- RGB files into a Digi-View RGB file. The program says it only
- works with 2.0 & 3.0 files, but hey, it worked here! I kept the
- screen size at 640 x 400.
-
- I then loaded the Digi-View RGB file into Digi-View 4.0, and it
- displayed the first time just as you see it now. No fiddling
- with noise reduction to eliminate banding. Then I just saved it
- as a Dynamic HiRes HAM pic, which you have now!
-
- This has opened up a whole new door for me in raytracing. No
- more (well, not as much) fighting Sculpt's dithering routines.
-
- I hope you have fun with this. Find Troy's program, and let's
- see some HiRes HAM raytraces! I can be found on Infinity BBS in
- Atlanta GA, (404) 475-1740. It's PC Pursuitable through the
- Atlanta outdial. Later...
