Johnny Ball - By Steven Lawson
Including Level Designer
This game (written in AMOS) was designed to be a cross between such
games as Lemmings, Brat and Deflektor.
It stars a small round character called Johnny who bounces aimlessly
around the screen until he hits something which will cause him to
bounce away in another direction.
The various levels consist of walls, electric fences and Johnny's
house, and the idea is to make Johnny bounce into his house by putting
down blocks onto the screen with the mouse pointer, and making Johnny
bounce towards his house.
Johnny always starts in the top left-hand corner of the screen and
rolls down to the right. Use either mouse pointer to place blocks in
his path, but remember, you only have SIX blocks to use per level, and
once all six are used, clicking will have no effect.
The electric fences that appear on later levels as flashing lines
will kill Johnny on impact, losing you one of your three lives. There
is also a time limit, so that you can't hang about for ever hoping
Johnny will arrive home on his own.
The house is shown as a pink square, and any contact Johnny makes
with the house will cause him to enter, and complete the level.
The Level Designer
When you get bored of the ten levels included in the game, you can
design your own easily (an example level created with the designer is
included on the disk with the filename "level" which you can also load
and play).
After entering the designer you will be asked for a command. These
are the possible commands and what they do:
PH Place Johnny's house on the screen. You can then use the
mouse to position the location of the top left-hand
corner of the house.
HL Draw a horizontal line. You will then be told to click
the mouse button at the LEFT end of the line, and then
type in the number of pixels long the line will be.
VL Draw a vertical line. Click the mouse button at the TOP
of the line and enter the number of pixels long the line
will be.
HE Draw a horizontal electric fence. The same as drawing a
horizontal line.
VE Draw a vertical electric fence. The same as drawing a
vertical line.
SAVE Type this when you have finished. You will then be asked
for a filename. If you type QUIT the design will be
aborted. Anything else will be used as the filename.
ABOUT THE GAME :
This game is public domain, so feel free to give copies to anyone and
to muck about with the code (although if you look you will find the
program is a hideous mess). If you have comments, new levels, improved
versions of the game (with some decent graphics and sound) send them to
me at:

But if you do improve the game and then distibute it please credit
me as the original designer and writer.
