The following is a demo screen of "The MIDISystem," developed
and sold for $149.95 by MidiMusic in Richardson, Texas.
The MIDISystem is a MIDI sequencing program that turns an
IBM-PC/compatible into a 64-track digital recorder. The
MIDISystem is a total recording package comprised of three major
components: 1) the PC MIDI card (fits expansion slot in PC); 2)
MIDI Interface Cables (1 in/3 out); 3) PC Sequencer Software
diskette.
Load up the demo and take a look at the MIDISystem!
NOTE: This demo screen allows you to select and execute
MIDISystem commands, so you can see how it works. You cannot
actually record, edit, or playback music without the other
components of the system!
HOW TO LOAD/USE MIDISystem DEMO:
Type in MIDIMUSC at the DOS prompt. The master screen will
appear.
All MIDISystem commands can be selected from the screen shown
here. When the screen comes up, the cursor will be flashing in
the lower left corner (this is called the Command Window). The
command menu is also shown in this area, just to the right above
where the cursor is flashing. The system commands are Edit,
Record, Play, Copy, Delete, and File. You may select a command by
typing the first letter of the command name (i.e. E for Edit).
The Enter key stops a function once you have started it (such as
Record or Play).
'Esc' returns to the command menu, and ultimately exits the
program.
Whenever the cursor is waiting in a field that displays a
default selection, the '+' and '-' keys allow you to toggle
through the other options available.
A brief description of the MIDISystem commands is given
below. Once you select a command, the Command Window will display
the options associated with that command.
Edit - allows you to edit the information on the screen. The
screen is divided into 3 sections: the System Window, the Data
Window, and the Command Window. Only the System Window (left) and
Data Window (right) can be edited. Once you've selected the area
you want to edit, the arrow keys allow you to move about within
the selected area.
The Data Window can display 3 different types of information
(selected by either the F1, F2, or F3 keys in the Command
Window). F1=Tracks (the default setting); F2=Marks (for editing
in specific locations [marks and beats] within a song);
F3=Messages (for viewing and editing raw MIDI data).
Record - allows you to record music played with a MIDI
instrument connected to the PC via MIDI Interface Cables and the
PC MIDI Card. In just 2 keystrokes (by selecting the Track and
pressing Enter), recording begins. Utilize the other command
options (Leadin, Begin, etc) as appropriate for your song and
exactly what you are going to record.
Play - plays back all tracks, or a single track, from the
designated begin beat to the designated end beat.
Copy - allows you to duplicate sections of a song by
specifying the track range to be copied.
Delete - removes data from the specified tracks and beats.
File - saves entire song, or only specified tracks/beats to
disk. That`s it - it's simple! The MIDISystem allows up to 64
track recording; 600 ticks per quarter note; 60,000 MIDI events
(with 640K). The minimum requirements for the complete system are
an XT/compatible/clone; 256K; 1 floppy drive; monochrome display;
unused COM1: or COM2:.
The MIDISystem sells for $149.95 (hardware and software!).
Low-level source code is available for $19.95. User ID 72571,167.
