  1. Synopsis:
  2.    motd [<server|nickname>]
  3.  
  4. Description:
  5.    This is used to display a server's Message of the Day.  All servers by
  6.    default will send this message to the client when it first connects to
  7.    the server (though it is often not displayed by the client).  These
  8.    messages typically tell a little about the server connected to, its
  9.    various policies, who to contact with questions or problems, etc.

  11.    If a server is specified, that server's motd is retrieved.  If a user's
  12.    nickname is given, that user's server is queried.  Otherwise the
  13.    default is the client's current server.

  15. Other Notes:
  16.    Users are encouraged to read the Message of the Day of any server they
  17.    use.  In some cases, the server administrator may need to inform all
  18.    users of something, and the MOTD is the most convenient way.  In any
  19.    event, users should be aware of a server's policies if they use that
  20.    server, as they will be held accountable for their actions whether
  21.    they are aware of such policies or not.
