Disk Operations Program
Written by: Charles Gauthier
DOP is an invaluable aid for most
common disk commands.
All options are accessed by pressing
a function key (f1-f8). A brief
explanation of all options follows:
F1 -- PURGE/DELETE a disk directory
item or a program
F2 -- COPY a program or file
F3 -- RENAME a disk
F4 -- DIRECTORY for the disk
currently in the drive
F5 -- CHANGE the name of a program
F6 -- INITIALIZE/FORMAT a disk
(This will ERASE EVERYTHING!!!)
F7 -- PRINT directory
F8 -- LOAD/RUN a program
Q -- QUIT
After choosing any option, you will
be given the choice of going back to
the main menu; therefore, there is no
need to worry about being committed to
wrong selection.
F1 - PURGE/DELETE DISK/PROGRAM
==============================
Insert the disk that contains the
file that you wish to delete, then
press [F1].
After you have answered the
continuation prompt, a two-item menu
will be displayed. Press [F1] if you
desire to delete from a directory
list or press [F3] if you wish to
enter the file name.
When you pick to delete from the
directory, the directory list will be
displayed on the screen, along with
the legend: '[P]urge [U]p [D]own
[Q]uit'. Use the 'U' and 'D' keys to
move this legend adjacent to the name
of the file that you wish to delete.
Once it's next to the filename, press
'P' to purge (delete) the file. If
you press 'P' on the wrong line,
don't worry because you will be
allowed to go back. When you have
chosen your desired file, press 'Q'
to quit.
If you select [F3] to delete a
program, you will be asked whether
you want a directory list or not.
Answer the question appropriately.
Next, you will be asked for the name
of the file that you wish to delete.
Enter the name and press [RETURN].
From either method, you will then
be given the choice of returning to
the main menu or validating the disk.
F2 - COPY A PROGRAM/FILE
========================
1) First, 'INSERT SOURCE DISK
[RETURN]' will be displayed. Your
source is the disk containing the
file that you wish to copy. Insert
this disk into your drive and press
[RETURN].
2) You will be asked, "FILE NAME?".
Enter the name of the file that you
wish to copy then press [RETURN].
3) Next, you will be asked, 'FILE
TYPE (S,P,U)?'. The 'S' is for
sequential; the 'P' is for program;
and the 'U' is for user. Enter the
appropriate letter then press
[RETURN]. To let you know that the
program is still working, the program
displays consecutive numbers between
each pause.
4) Next, 'INSERT DESTINATION DISK
[RETURN]' will be displayed. Your
destination is the disk that you wish
to copy onto. Insert this disk and
press [RETURN]. When finished you
will be back in the main menu.
F3 - RENAME DISK
================
If you select this option, a menu
will be displayed similar to the one
below.
F1 - NAME CHANGE
F7 - MAIN MENU
As indicated, [F7] will return you
to the main menu.
If you choose [F1] then the current
NAME will be shown. Next, you will be
asked, 'Please type the [16 LETTER]
name for the disk?.' Enter the
name,then press [RETURN].
When this is done, the new NAME
will be shown, and you will have the
option to change another disk's name.
*** NOTE ***
LOADSTAR will not work if you rename
the disk!
F4 - DIRECTORY OF THIS DISK
========================
Before pressing [F4], place your
disk into the drive.
At the end of the directory display,
you will be given the option to
continue or quit. In this case,
continue means return to main menu and
quit means exit from DOP.
F5 - CHANGE THE NAME OF PROGRAM
===============================
A directory will be listed in the
same way as in [F4]-DIRECTORY. At
the end (or if you selected to end
the directory display), you will be
asked which program. Enter the name
of the program and press [RETURN].
Next, you will be asked what name to
change it to. Enter the new name and
press [RETURN]. If you change your
mind, you will have the option to
abort the change at a Yes/No prompt.
F6 - INITIALIZE/FORMAT A DISK
=============================
CAUTION: THIS WILL ERASE
EVERYTHING!!! There are only two
prompts that you have to respond to:
'type in a disk name(16 max.)?'
'type in a 2 character identifier?'
Respond to both of these prompts
appropriately and say "Good-Bye" to
everything on your disk!
F7 - PRINT DIRECTORY
====================
This option writes a disk directory
via your printer. The first menu you
encounter will give you the option to
select a 'regular' or Gemini 10X
printer, or return to the main menu.
Next you will be given the option to
select 2 or 3 columns of print for the
regular printer and 2-5 columns for
the Gemini printer. Having selected
the number of columns, you will be
told to press [RETURN] when the disk
is ready. Insert your disk then press
[RETURN]. The disk's directory will be
listed followed by the prompt 'Y/N.'
If the directory is the one you want
printed, then press 'Y'. If not,
insert the correct disk and press
[RETURN] when printer is ready. Ready
your printer then press [RETURN].
F8 - LOAD/RUN A PROGRAM
=======================
You see the following menu:
F1 - INPUT RUN
F3 - MENU RUN
If you press [F1] then you will be
asked to enter the program's name.
Enter the name of the program, then
press [RETURN]. You will exit DOP and
the specified program will be loaded
and run. IF you press [RETURN]
without entering anything else, you
will go to the main menu.
If you select [F3], you will see
the legend: "[R]un [U]p [D]own [Q]."
The commands function the same as in
the F1 option except that the program
will be run instead of deleted.
