  6.   ARACHNIA is a fast paced arcade-
  7.  
  8. style game that charges you with the
  9.  
  10. task of destroying hordes of the
  11.  
  12. spider-like Arachnians that are bent
  13.  
  14. on invading and destroying YOUR web.
  15.  
  16. And after all, a man's web is his
  17.  
  18. castle, no?  So take up your joystick
  19.  
  20. and have no mercy in exterminating
  21.  
  22. the 8-legged vermin.
  23.  
  24.  
  25.   This, however, is much easier said
  26.  
  27. than done-- when 50 Arachnians have
  28.  
  29. been destroyed, ARACHNIA increases
  30.  
  31. the speed at which the invaders move.
  32.  
  33. Because there are ten levels in
  34.  
  35. ARACHNIA, (unlike most games of this
  36.  
  37. type) this game is not likely to
  38.  
  39. be mastered too quickly.
  40.  
  41.  
  42.         PLAYING ARACHNIA
  43.         ------- --------
  44.  
  45.   When the game begins, you see your
  46.  
  47. web with a white base at its center.
  48.  
  49. This base sends out a continuous
  50.  
  51. stream of shots automatically.
  52.  
  53. Direction of the shots is controlled
  54.  
  55. by moving the base with the joystick
  56.  
  57. in the direction you want the shots
  58.  
  59. to go.
  60.  
  61.  
  62.   You get only three bases in the
  63.  
  64. course of one game.  Bases can be
  65.  
  66. destroyed by touching an Arachnian or
  67.  
  68. by moving off of the web.
  69.  
  70.  
  71.   The invading forces advance toward
  72.  
  73. the center of the web in two separate
  74.  
  75. ways.  The drifter Arachnians move
  76.  
  77. left or right across the screen; the
  78.  
  79. other, more dangerous, type moves
  80.  
  81. along the spokes of the web.  If this
  82.  
  83. "tracer" type reaches the center of
  84.  
  85. the web, that spoke is destroyed.
  86.  
  87.  
  88.   If four adjacent spokes are
  89.  
  90. destroyed, the game ends.  The game
  91.  
  92. also ends when your three bases are
  93.  
  94. destroyed.
  95.  
  96.  
  97.   If things get really hairy, you can
  98.  
  99. kill all of the the enemies on the
  100.  
  101. screen at once by pressing the fire
  102.  
  103. button.  The catch is that you can
  104.  
  105. use this option only once per level,
  106.  
  107. and you get no points for the enemies
  108.  
  109. killed.
  110.  
  111.  
  112.   ARACHNIA awards points for each
  113.  
  114. invader killed, the value for each
  115.  
  116. determined by the level you're on.
  117.  
  118. You also get points for every spoke
  119.  
  120. that remains intact after every
  121.  
  122. level.  If your web remains
  123.  
  124. unscathed, you also are awarded a
  125.  
  126. bonus.  Also, if you survive past
  127.  
  128. level NINE, you receive 10,000
  129.  
  130. points.

  133.   You also get an extra base.
  134.  
  135. Chances are you'll need it.

  138.   To begin, make sure to have your
  139.  
  140. joystick plugged into Port-2.
  141.  
  142. Pressing the space bar begins the
  143.  
  144. game; pressing F1 quits.
