FORTUNE HUNTER is a graphic
adventure game that transports you to
an unexplored land filled with
forests, mountains, deserts and
rivers. The object of the game is to
locate and dig up five buried
treasures. You must also find
canteens, shovels, boats and maps to
allow you to survive and to assist
you in your search. A normal game
will take you up to an hour to
complete and is very challenging. It
can also teach you map reading skills
as you try to find the buried
treasures.
Using a joystick in port #2, you
can move in any of eight directions.
This is important, as sometimes the
only movement possible will be in a
diagonal direction. When you come
upon an object, press the firebutton
to add it to your supplies.
Canteens are the most important
items to gather, as you will need
water to survive. When you are
becoming thirsty you will be informed
and your movement will slow
considerably. When you wish to take
a drink and have a canteen in your
supply, press the F3 key.
The use of shovels in the game is
self-explanatory. Press F1 to use a
shovel and dig a hole in your current
position.
Boats are very useful as they
allow you to travel the waterways at
a fast speed. This allows you to
reach faraway areas in a short amount
of time. To use a boat, approach the
water and press F5. You now use your
joystick to maneuver in the water.
When you wish to disembark, approach
land and press the firebutton.
Maps are also very important to
locate because finding treasure is
nearly impossible without them.
These maps will show you a detailed
location of a treasure. To access a
map press F7. You will then be
prompted to enter a number from 1 to
5. The corresponding map, if you
have it, will then be shown in a
small window on the right side of the
screen. The point at which you must
dig is located in the center of the
map. Try and match the map to
someplace in the world if you can and
lay claim to the spoils of your
search.
This game is hard to complete and
should present a real challenge to
fortune hunters. You must find all
five treasures before you die of
thirst, which is a very real
possibility. There is one tip I
would like to give you: You can
cross rivers with diagonal movement
at points where a river is narrow
enough. Good luck and happy hunting!
