F I D U C I A R Y
by Lee O. Clinton
Over the years LOADSTAR 128 has published many useful programs aimed at
the more serious C-128 users. We figured that one of the reasons why a
couple of million people moved from the C-64 to the C-128 was for the extra
capabilities of the bigger machine. Let's face it, people who spend $300+
for a computer expect more from it than those who spend $100. I am proud of
the serious programs we've brought to you over the past six years.
But this has to be LOADSTAR 128's proudest moment: the publication of
Lee Clinton's FIDUCIARY. It is simply the most powerful program of its kind
ever created for an 8-bit machine. It deserves to take up all of Side Two
of LOADSTAR 128 #23.
FIDUCIARY is designed to take care of most, if not all, of your
finances. Here is a list of some of its features:
* Transaction Manager - manages any kind of cash, check or card flow
* Checkbook Balancer - manages your checkbook and even prints checks
* Budget Manager - issues reports on, and tracks your budget
* Assets/Liabilities Manager - tracks net worth, household inventory
* Chartmaker - displays your data in a graphic, understandable form
FIDUCIARY comes with superb documentation, which must be read before
you can use FIDUCIARY as it is intended. It's so large that I had to break
it up into five files. Print these out with LOADSTAR 128's print function
and you'll have a nifty 30+ page manual.
NOTE: The chartmaker program is considered a separate program by the
LOADSTAR menu but it is copied, along with all FIDUCIARY docs and required
files, when you select Copy It from our menu. The docs for "fiduciary
charts" are found in the manual.
Your money is serious (and complex) business so don't expect to breeze
through FIDUCIARY without glancing at the manual. The program is filled
with help screens and prompts but you should always have the manual nearby
for the times you want to use the real power of FIDUCIARY.
Lee Clinton is primarily an IBM programmer now and will not be adding
features or upgrading FIDUCIARY. It's written in 100% machine code so I
doubt if anyone else will have the know-how (or guts) to attempt to upgrade
it either. However, there is one module Lee wrote for it that I left off
for space reasons. It is a conversion program that converts files from
Timeworks (r) Sylvia Porter's Personal Finance (tm) series Your Personal
Financial Planner 128 (tm) (whew!) to the format FIDUCIARY uses. If you use
this Timeworks program and would like to see the conversion program on a
future LOADSTAR 128, write and let me know. If I get enough positive
responses I'll publish it.
Many people jumped on the computer bandwagon back in the 80s because
the computer was touted as a "time and money saver". We now know that a
computer is a double-edged sword, and that because of computers we now have
LESS time and LESS money than we had before. But we sure have a lot more
fun and ambition than we used to when it comes to money matters. Taking
care of your monthly finances was a lot simpler back in the 70s but you
never even dreamed of developing a monthly report that tracks your bank and
stock transactions and your household inventory and budget at the same
time.
Thanks to your C-128 and Lee Clinton, now you CAN do all of that and
more. LOADSTAR bought FIDUCIARY so all of its loyal readers can have the
best financial program available. Happy finances!
