" THE FIRST RIDDLE OF ST CALIBAN
There are five squares formed by the
Staffs of St Caliban. By moving three
of the staffs to new positions you
will end up with FOUR connected squares
of the same size. All sixteen staffs
will be used.

This is a standard barroom toothpicks puzzle. Calhoon wasn't up for
making it a puzzle you could actually solve on the computer. He
figured the player would simply get some toothpicks and solve it on a
coffee table.

The trick is to decrease the number of squares by getting rid of one
"(for instance, taking J and N) and part of another (P) and put these
three staffs onto M to make a new square. Another solution would be to
"move P and M, along with N to make a new square attached to J.
"
Once you've solved both Riddles of St Caliban you are allowed to enter
the four final locked rooms.
