About Players
-------------
Playing an Oracle Media Objects application (a "stack") using the
Oracle Media Objects Player is similar to using the stack in browse
mode in the Authoring Environment. The Player does not provide a
toolbar, info dialogs, or any other Authoring Environment interface
elements, but all capabilities available via scripting in the
Authoring Environment are also available in the Player.
To install an Oracle Media Objects Player, simply copy the appropriate
folder (Macintosh or Windows) to your disk. The Macintosh version of
the Player is included on the Macintosh partition of this disk in the
folder "Players:Macintosh". You may rename the copied folder or
directory, but its contents should not be moved, renamed, or deleted.
Like the Authoring Environment, the Player requires QuickTime or
QuickTime for Windows to play QuickTime digital video and Sound
Manager on the Macintosh to play digital audio. To install these
components on a Macintosh, refer to the installation instructions in
the "Read Me First" file. To install QuickTime for Windows, insert
this CD in a Windows PC and refer to the instructions in the
"README.TXT" file. Note that all of these components are provided
for your use with Oracle Media Objects *only*; to redistribute them
you must obtain a license from Apple Computer's Software Licensing
group.
On either a Macintosh or Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 machine, an Oracle
Media Objects stack can be played by either double-clicking on its
icon or dragging its icon onto the Player's icon (using the File
Manager under Windows 3.1). You can also set up a Program Item in
the Windows Program Manager for executing your stack. To do this,
create a Program Item that points at the player executable and passes
the name of your stack on the command line. For example,
"c:\omoplay\omoplay.exe c:\mystacks\myapp.sta".
There is no charge for distributing the Oracle Media Objects Player
with your applications, but you are required to sign a Runtime
Distribution Agreement and display the Oracle-provided icon. If you
plan to distribute an application created with Oracle Media Objects,
please read and sign the Oracle Runtime Distribution Agreement
(provided in printed form with this CD-ROM). This agreement requires
you to include the Oracle- provided icon either (i) on all packaging for
your application, (ii) on CD-ROMs or other media containing the
application or (iii) as part of the splash screen for the application.
The encapsulated postscript files provided ("Normal.Eps" and
"Reverse.Eps") include the icon in the minimum size required for
printing (roughly 25 points wide by 29 points high). The icon should
not be printed any smaller than this specified size. The icon should
print in black, white or PMS 485 or its CMYK equivalent (C:0%,
M:100%, Y:100%, K:0%). The icon can also reverse out of black, or
any color, to white. We have included a black icon, as well as a
reversed icon for printing against a dark background.
