250+ CLASSIC CITIES
=====================
Contents of this document:
Section A: Information for Sim City Classic users.
Section B: Editing Tool to Change (a.k.a. Cheat!) Classic Cities.
Section C: Information for Sim City 2000 users.
Section D: How to Install City Files by Hand
A. For SIM CITY CLASSIC users ...
Over 250 cities for SIM CITY CLASSIC are contained in this directory on
your CD-ROM. Using Windows Program Manager, you can install all of the
cities by running the program INSTALL.EXE which is found in this
directory. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Launch Microsoft Windows.
2. Make sure that Program Manager is the active window.
3. Select "File" from the main menu bar.
4. Select "Run" from the pulldown menu which appears.
5. Type: X:\CTY\INSTALL.EXE (substitute the letter of your
CD-ROM drive for 'X').
6. Click "OK" or press the ENTER key to install the files.
If you have any problems with installation, there is a MS-DOS method by
which you can install and convert the files by hand. It is described in
the last section of this document.
B. A Tool to View and Change Classic Cities (or CHEAT!) ...
A special MS-DOS editor called EDITCITY.EXE is located in the same
directory with the city files. User documentation is contained in a
file called EDITCITY.TXT which is located in the same directory.
If you use the Windows installation program, both the editor and its
documentation will be installed at the same time as your 250+ cities.
Otherwise, if you are installing the files by hand, copy both files
into the same directory with your city files.
Read the documentation for instructions on how to view and edit a
SIM CITY CLASSIC file.
C. For SIM CITY 2000 users ...
All of the classic cities have been already converted to SIM CITY 2000
format. If you are using SIM CITY 2000, do not bother to install these
files unless you want to edit them and convert them manually. The cities
are already converted into WizardWorks Game File (.GFL) format and can
be loaded with the Game File Manager. Search for the keyword "CLASSIC"
to list these files with Game File Manager.
D. How to Install the Files Manually ...
If you do not have enough disk space to install all of these files, here
is how you can convert the files manually:
1. Copy any file which ends with .CT_ from this directory into
a new directory on Drive C: of your computer.
2. Copy the file EXPAND.EXE into the same directory.
3. From the DOS prompt, type EXPAND FILENAME.CT_ FILENAME.CTY
(substitute the actual filename for "FILENAME").
4. The EXPAND program will decompress the .CT_ file and expand
it into a new file ending with a .CTY extension.
