Labels: text | screenshot | font OCR: WILDCAT AND SERPENT A N EXCAVATION at the ruined town of Pashash, on the Pacific slopes of the Andes in northern Peru, South America, uncovered a burial site beneath a temple, dated about AD 500. As well as a body, the site contained ornamental pins and items used in weaving, suggesting that this was the tomb of a nobleman's wife. This effigy vessel was placed in the tomb as an offering. It has the body of a snake and the head and forelegs of a cat. Such effigies often appear in the pottery of this culture, which never represented snakes in their true form. No similar objects have been discovered elsewhere, and little is known about the culture. SEE ALSO
