Introduction
I bought a SoundBlaster thinking I could just plug it
in and play all those great .MOD files I used to enjoy
when I had an Amiga....
Well, was I dissapointed when I could'nt find a good
.MOD player that would work with my EGA 286.
So that's where it started, I searched high and low
for some good source to use to play .MOD files and
found the heart of this program, a little .OBJ file
written by Mark J Cox. Was I relieved, for if you have
ever tried to program a SoundBlaster you will know what
I mean.
To cut a long story short, I sat down and started playing
around with it and saw it had potential so I decided to
write Freddy's Module Player.
"Why Freddy's Module Player?", I hear you ask, well, I
am the SysOp of a BBS called Freddy's Domain and I go
under the alias of Freddy Kruger.
Ok, so lets get down to business then....
Usage
FMP does'nt really have much explaining to do so
this won't be very long.
1. About : This is just a little info about the program.
2. Help : Just a little help box, not much in there and
really is'nt much help at all. 8-)
3. Exit : Pretty obvious I think.
4. Change Directory : Another pretty obvious command.
5. Play : This will play the file of your choice. After
selecting this option you are presented with a file
selection box. Click twice on the file you want to
play. After the file starts to play a volume box will
appear with four volume contols in it.
Although the sound blaster has more than 4 voices
.Mod files are Amiga music files and the Amiga only
has 4 voices there there is no real point having more
than 4 volume controls.
Each volume control will allow you to adjust the
volume of each of the 4 seperate voices allowing you
to experiment with the .Mod file to create some great
effects.
Just click on the stop button when you want to play a
different Mod.
6. Dos Shell : Will Allow you to jump out to Dos.
That's basically all there is to know so get in there and
have fun!
Things to come
The next version of this program will have an equaliser
in it to display graphical bars as your music is playing.
It may also have a pattern display which will allow you
to view the pattern information as the song is being
played.
Note: This will be the only FreeWare version of this
program, the next version will be ShareWare.
I hope to, in the future, turn this program into a full
.MOD editor allowing you to create your own Mods from
scratch and have it's own built in Sampler so rest
assured this is not the end.....
Although, none of this is promised.
Support
I will attempt to provide support for FMP users who are
having difficulties. Note that I cannot guarantee any
help.
I can be contacted by:
1. Logging onto Freddy's Domain BBS and leaving me a
message. The number is (+61-3) 338-8923, and all
CCITT baud rates up to 2400 are supported.
2. FidoNet netmail. My address is 3:633/202.
If you feel FMP is worth anything, feel free to contact
me on the address's above. It's not compulsory,
but would certainly be welcome!
If you use FMP, a little note by any of the above
methods would be appreciated, just so I can keep track of
who is using it where.
Thanks
I would like to thank Mark J Cox for the great
.OBJ code.
