Documentation by: Cockrowch (Trial, Error and Boredom)
Graphics: EVERYTHING. Really: Hercules, CGA, Tandy, EGA, VGA
Sound: Adlib and PC Sputter
Control: Joystick or Keyboard
(my copy) Cracked by: INC
Controls:
Arrows or Joystick : Movement.
Space or fire button : Shoot laser (once you get it)
T : Fire a grenade (once you find one)
S : Status - shows lives, rescued, floor, etc.
U : Uses an item - Select and hit enter, or
ESC to quit.
ESC : Pauses game. ESC again starts the game
Enter : Talks with whoever you're near.
Alt-S : Saves game... doesn't seem to work
right, as it only goes to the current
floor, not the room you saved it in.
Playable, though.
Alt-R : Restores game.
Ctrl-S : Turns on/off sound.
Ctrl-R : Restarts level.
Ctrl-Q : Quits game.
Things:
Laser: you find this in one of the first rooms. It is glowing
behind a desk. The laser, when fired, will bounce off of
walls and can hit the door-switches.
Grenade: This is the same thing that the Security Tubes shoot at
you. These should not be used that much. Only when
you HAVE to.
Computers: Don't destroy these till after you bump into them.
They have fun information and pictures. One computer
is VERY important, and you have to enter a code to
get in to a door. (Don't read the next sentance if
you don't want to cheat. The codes are war, death,
famine, or pestilence, depending on what is chosen.)
Bubbles: Big red/blue spheres. These can envelope you ONLY IF
BLUE. Only stray laser-shots can free you. They are
TOTALLY harmless if red, but will change to blue when
they see you. Laser will kill it.
Speeders: Purple things that bounce off walls and doors. These
will kill you if you get hit by them. Only an object
can kill them. Like you, or a bubble, etc.
Stompers: Big blue hopping things. They look like huge ear-plugs.
These are dangerous, as they will jump nearly half a
screen to jump on you. They can disappear into the
ground, and only you walking past it will make it come
back out of the ground. Laser will kill it.
Demon: Black with a red outline. Looks like a person. These
things are shape-shifters, and can look like cabinets,
people, chairs, plants, etc. They will only come out of
their hidden state when they can 'see' you. They will
follow you onto other screens as well. When they catch
up to you, they'll just rip your head off. ONLY grenades
can kill them.
Cubes: MOST small blue cubes are grenades for you to pick up.
On rare occasions, you may pick up a 'freeze' cube. It
can be used through your 'U'se option. It will stop the
whole screen for a while. Some of the cubes might be glowing.
It doesn't really matter.
Keys: These are glowing gray things. Pretty small. They are
needed to open the security doors.
Other Glowing Things: They only other thing that glows (i think)
is the laser.
Locks: These are triangles or horizontal bars on walls. They
open/close doors. Yellow ones just need to be bumped
into to be used. White bordered ones need a security
key. Not all the locks are real. I found two fake locks
that did nothing. Oh well. Oh... locks can also
activate/deactivate Security Tubes.
Security Tubes: Green tubes sticking out of the ground. These
things will fire grenades at you, if you pass in
front of them. Only grenades can destroy them.
Also, they can be deactivated on some screens.
Electric Eyes: These nasty little things are annoying. They are
hard-to-see flashing DOTS on the wall. They can
do anything from closing doors to turning on
security tubes. BE VERY CAREFUL of them, as on
one screen it's not possible to pass unless you
see the eye. Eyes can be destroyed by laser,
etc. If you can't seem to hit it, just fire NEAR
it. A message will pop up if it is destroyed,
saying "Electric Eye Destroyed."
Floor Bombs: Small squares on the ground that have red dots
flashing around the edges. Only way to destroy
these is to have something exploded over it. Like
you, or you killing an enemy that's coming over to
you.
Teleporters: Blue squares on the ground. They will teleport
ANYTHING to another teleporter on the screen. By
anything I mean you, enemies, and lasers!
Shock-Pads: These things flash with electricity on the ground
and will kill you. The ways to not be affected by
it are to use a freezer, or put on your armor.
People: People. Duh. After killing everything in the room,
TALK with them. They will follow you, try and get them
to the corridor with the red arrow painted on it. They
will get away, and give you another life. When you talk
with them, they can tell you or give you VERY
important stuff:
Passwords: You can get passwords for computers out of
some of them.
Armor: One will give you a suit of Armor. You are
protected for a short time, or until a grenade
hits you. You must 'U'se it.
Bomb: One will give you a time-bomb. This should be
'U'sed on the unopenable door in the room you
get it from. BE CAREFUL! You must hide behind
a wall when you use it, or else you will be
destroyed with it.
Speeders: I think you can get some of you very own
personal speeders that you can launch. I'm
not sure who you get them from, but I found
them from screwing with my saved games.
I'll discuss that later.
Useables: Along with the package you have for Derrida, and the
Freeze time thing, the three items above (under
people) can be 'U'sed.
Vents: These a grey vents in the floor. Enemies will come out
of them. To close them, run over them.
Other: There are 'other' things that do nothing, but you can
destroy with your laser:
Plants, Chairs, Cabinets, Boxes, Computers, Yellow
Barrel-looking things.
Hints/Tips:
o In higher levels it's a good idea to shoot anything that
can be destroyed to make sure it's not a demon in waiting.
o Be careful with people. They can be killed by anything you
can, and also your laser.
o Try and get Security Tubes to shoot eachother.
o Lay down a line of fire with your laser before entering a room
with lots of enemies.
o Always remember that you can hit door-switches with your laser,
and that the teleporter can teleport your laser.
Saved Games:
If you're a DEBUG junkie, you can have some fun with your saved
games. From what I've found, DGEN saves it's levels really
strangely, and I haven't really figured it out. Take a shot at
it if you want. So far, I have found what the following
addresses within the SAVE.DAT file do:
Address In Hex
6 : how many lives. 0-128 then 129-255 is
negative.
7 : how many people you've saved. Same
numbering as above.
8 : Floor it TELLS you you're on.
9 : how many grenades you have (like lives)
b : what level security key you have
e : what direction you're facing:
0 - up
1 - up-right
2 - right
3 - down-right
4 - down
5 - down-left
6 - left
7 - up left
f : number of bombs you have (like lives)
10 : number of freezes you have (like lives)
11 : number of armors you have (like lives)
12 : number of speeders you have (like lives)
Play around with it. All I know about how it saves the
level is what room number you START at, and where the
exit is. Address 2 is like address e, only it's the
direction that the exit is. Address 3 is what Room
you're in. VERY WEIRD.
Well, that's about all right now. The only thing I intentially left out
of this was the REALLY STRANGE ending. The plot of the game gets weird,
but it's fun. I don't want to explain it either, because that would
take too long. Oh well. I hope this helps anyone out there. The only
reason I took the time to write all this was because I couldn't find any
docs for myself, and that there was just so much in this game.
From 1 to 10, I rate this a 10. It has it all: Puzzle solving,
Shoot'em up, speed, and good graphics. Also an unusual plot. Until
next time:

BTW - If someone DID write docs, then to them "Oops! Sorry... I never
saw 'em"
