Playgirl 1.0
-----------------------------------------------

IF MICROSOFT VIDEO FOR WINDOWS
IS NOT INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER,
PLAYGIRL WILL NOT PLAY VIDEO.

THE RUNTIME VERSION OF VIDEO FOR
WINDOWS 1.1 IS LOCATED IN THE
'\NEW_VFW' DIRECTORY

-----------------------------------------------
------> To Install Microsoft Video for Windows.
1. Choose 'File' from the menubar
2. Select 'Run'
3. Type 'D:\NEW_VFW\SETUP.EXE'
(if your CD-ROM drive is a different letter,
substitute 'D' with the correct letter)
4. Click 'OK' and follow the instructions.
5. After restarting Windows, double click
the Playgirl icon to start the program.
ON SOME SYSTEMS, VFW 1.1 MAY CAUSE IMPROPER VIDEO PLAYBACK.
VFW 1.0 HAS BEEN INCLUDED ON THE CD-ROM FOR THOSE SYSTEMS
THAT RUN BETTER USING THE ORIGINAL VIDEO FOR WINDOWS.
TO SWITCH BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW VERSIONS OF VFW, SIMPLY
RUN THE 'SETUP.EXE' PROGRAM IN THE CORRESPONDING VFW DIRECTORY
ON THE CD-ROM.
NOTE: Anywhere C:\PLAYGIRL is referred to below should be
read as the entry chosen during installation (if the
default was not used).
IF PLAYGIRL OPERATES CORRECTLY, the following may be useful:
- If the video has jerky playback, you may be able to improve
performance by selecting the 'Accelerated Video' in
the startup screen. You may also find that a smaller
size video screen (chosen with the slider in the startup
screen) will play faster. On some systems, switching
between the new and old versions of VFW may also help.
NOTE: Accelerated video will suspend all controls during
video playback. To regain control before the video ends,
use Ctrl-Break.
IF PLAYGIRL DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY, the following may help you
to diagnose and correct possible installation or driver problems.
Error #1: 'There is an undetectable problem in loading the
specified device driver.'
Problem: Video for Windows is NOT installed
Solution: Install Video for Windows
- SEE ABOVE
Error #2: No Sound / 'No wave device that can play files
in the current format is installed. Use the Drivers
option to install the wave device.'
Problem: Sound card and driver have not been correctly
installed. Check the Drivers section of the control
panel to make sure that a wave driver is installed.
If one is installed, check to make sure it is operating
correctly. If one is not installed, follow the
instructions for installing the Windows driver for your
sound card.
Error #3: The videos playback in strange colors
Problem: Palette conflicts using VFW 1.1
Solutions: 1. Run PlayGirl in 16-bit (65,000 colors)
or 24-bit (16.7 million colors) mode.
- or -
2. Install the old version of VFW
a. Choose 'File' from the menubar
b. Select 'Run'
c. Type 'D:\OLD_VFW\SETUP.EXE'
(if your CD-ROM drive is a different letter,
substitute 'D' with the correct letter)
d. Click 'OK' and follow the instructions.
e. After restarting Windows, double the
PlayGirl icon to start the program.
Error #4: Could not find the specified file.
Problem: Files are missing from the 'C:\PLAYGIRL' directory
Solution: Reboot to exit the program.
Check to make sure all the files listed
below are in 'C:\PLAYGIRL' directory of your hard
drive. Check the WIN.INI file for the following:
[Playgirl]
audio=c:\playgirl
Playgirl automatically sets this variable to the
directory from which 'PLAYGIRL.TBK' was launched
EVERY time it is run.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The installation program installs the following files into a directory
called "\PLAYGIRL":
(you can change the name and location of this directory)

TBKMM.DLL TBKMM.INI TBKMM.SBK TBKMMWID.FON
TBKWIN.DLL
Playgirl Files

Finally, the following file is copied to your "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM"
directory. If your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM files are installed elsewhere,
make sure this file is installed in that directory.
