  73.   Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try
  74.   software before buying it. If you try a Shareware
  75.   program and continue using it, you are expected to
  76.   register. Individual programs differ on details --
  77.   some request registration while others require it,
  78.   some specify a maximum trial period. With registr-
  79.   ation, you get anything from the simple right to 
  80.   continue using the software to an updated program
  81.   with a printed manual.

  83.   Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commerc-
  84.   ial software, and the copyright holder retains all 
  85.   rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated 
  86.   below. Shareware authors are accomplished program-
  87.   mers, just like commercial authors, and the programs
  88.   are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there 
  89.   are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference 
  90.   is in the method of distribution. The author specif-
  91.   ically grants the right to copy and distribute the 
  92.   software, either to all and sundry or to a specific
  93.   group. For example, some authors require written 
  94.   permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy 
  95.   their Shareware.
