  5. Announcing the release of SlipStream Jet 1.000. This Windows program will let you download your selected USENET newsgroups and EMail from your internet provider (SLIP/PPP) or TCP/IP Winsock 1.1 compliant network and convert them to QWK format for use with your favorite offline reader. It will read your reply packets and upload them to your NNTP server. It will create 100% correct USENET and mail headers. This program requires Windows 3.1 or higher, a TCP/IP connection, and a Winsock 1.1 compliant stack installed.

  7. Please be sure to read the license.txt for important legal, license and
  8. warranty information. The current unregistered version will allow up to 
  9. 5 newsgroups to be selected.

  11. SlipStream requires VBRUN300.DLL and may not run in Windows 
  12. Standard mode. VBRUN300.DLL can be found at most FTP sites 
  13. and most BBS'. Please make sure your VBRUN300.DLL is dated 5-12 or
  14. later, and not 4-28-93.

  17. INSTALLATION
  18.  
  19. 1. Unzip the file you downloaded into a temporary directory (ie:
  20.    c:\unzip). SETUP.EXE will NOT run if run from the same 
  21.    directory as specified in the TEMP environment variable.
  22.    ***Also*** see WINSTALL.HLP - MOST apply to Slipstream.

  24. 2. Select the "Run" command from Windows File Manager, type in
  25.    [dir]\setup.exe and click on "OK".
  26.  
  27. 3. Answer installation questions according to your preferences.
  28.  
  29. 4. Delete unzipped files from your temporary directory.

  32. SETUP
  33.  
  34. 1. Start Slipstream from the Slipstream Program Group the 
  35.    installation created.
  36.  
  37. 2. Click on the button showing a Wrench icon.
  38.  
  39. 3. Enter your NNTP server hostname (or IP address), your email address
  40.    and organization.
  41.  
  42. 4. Click on path and enter the names of your mail packet directory
  43.    (where your QWK reader looks for QWK packets), your reply directory
  44.    (where you upload from) and the directory and filename of your QWK
  45.    reader.
  46.  
  47. 5. Click on the button showing the File Cabinet icon.
  48.  
  49. 6. Using the Add button enter the names of the newsgroups you wish to
  50.    subscribe to. Slipstream defaults to updating the high message number
  51.    for each new group. If you know the number of the last message you
  52.    marked as read, you can uncheck "Reset High" and enter a new number
  53.    under "High Pointer".

  55. 7. Click on "OK" when you are done entering newsgroups (remember the 
  56.    unregistered version only allows 10).
  57.  
  58. 8. Your setup is now complete.
  59.

  61. RUNNING SLIPSTREAM JET
  62.  
  63. 1. Establish your TCP/IP connection to your Internet provider.
  64.  
  65. 2. Double click the program icon in the SlipStream program group.
  66.  
  67. 3. Click on the button showing a Robot icon. You will be presented with a
  68.    dialog box. Check whether to just download articles or also
  69.    post Replies (SlipStream will automatically sense a reply packet and
  70.    mark "Post Messages" as checked). Email is not available as of this
  71.    version, but will be very soon. When you are finished making your
  72.    selections, click on "OK". Slipstream will take it from here.

  74. 4. When the MSDOS icon (or window) is gone the QWK packet has been
  75.    created and is ready to be read. You can either click on the button
  76.    with the Photo and Envelope icon to start your QWK reader or quit
  77.    SlipStream (by clicking on the button with the Arrow icon) and start
  78.    your QWK reader by your normal method.

  80. NOTES: Some Windows QWK readers make changes to the header info when
  81. you edit an existing reply message. This will cause a "Bad Article
  82. Number" on your NNTP server and the message will *not* be successfully
  83. uploaded. If you must edit a message you've already created, the best
  84. work around for this is to copy the text of the message to the
  85. clipboard and then paste it into a new message. You will have to
  86. manually enter the subject and newsgroup. The 2 pass threading is also
  87. not fully implemented as of this release. This will allow you to
  88. download subject headers and select which specific articles to download.

  101. Remember, this is shareware. It is NOT free. PLEASE register if you
  102. continue use. Besides, you'll be the envy of your "Net" block as they
  103. say, "Gee, this person actually registers stuff!" ; )  You will also be
  104. able to sleep at night knowing that you are not stealing the food out of
  105. our kids mouths, and you will be provided with full program technical
  106. support.
