PC/BILL is a time and billing system for attorneys or other
professionals who bill by hourly rate or flat fee for services.
The programs are designed for the small office with a "checkbook"
accounting system where the user desires a stand-alone time and
billing system which is not linked to a general-purpose office
accounting system.
PC/BILL is designed for use by an office with a maximum of 20
timekeepers. Bills can printed in several formats. Extensive activity
reports, alphabetical client lists, and auditing of data entries
for fees, costs, and payments by client or category are included.
[Shareware distributors: Please use the previous two paragraphs for
a short catalog description]
PC/BILL will be useful to a wide variety of professionals including:
attorneys, accountants, consultants, and others.
PC/BILL is a mature system which has been in use for ten years. It has
proved to be a FAST and SIMPLE system to use with no special requirements
for color displays, data base software, or a link to an office accounting
or book-keeping program.
Minimum hardware required is an AT class IBM compatible computer with at
least one high-density floppy drive (1.2mb or 1.44mb) and 512 KB memory.
A hard drive is highly recommended for speed in data sorting.
If a two-floppy system is used one of the drives must be a high-density
drive. Either a 1.2 mb or a 1.44 mb DS/HD drive will be large enough to
store the .EXE files for the system. A 360 kb DS/DD drive is adequate
for small data files only.
The system has been used successfully with dot-matrix printers, Diablo
1620 and 1640 daisy wheel printers and HP Laserjet II and III printers.
It should print to any system printer with output directed to PRN.
When using a dot-matrix or daisy wheel printer continuous fan-fold paper
or a sheet feeder must be used.
A non-formatted version of the instruction manual can be printed from
the ASCII text file PCBILL.DOC. For a formatted copy of the manual
print either PCBILL.WP2 (from Wordperfect Ver 4.2) or PCBILL.WS3 (from
Wordstar Ver 3.3).
************************************
Installation of the PC/BILL system
************************************
1. Create the directory in which PC/BILL will be installed using
the DOS command mkdir \pcbill (or any other directory name).
2. Insert the distribution diskette in a floppy drive A:.
3. Change to the drive with the distribution disk. Usually drive A:.
If you have a second floppy drive insert any disk in it. The
installation checks for the existence of a second drive but will
not write to it.
4. The install command syntax is: install 1 2 3
where 1 is the drive with the distribution diskette.
2 is the drive where PC/BILL is to be installed.
3 is the directory name or full path to sub directory.
The three entries are separated by spaces.
Examples: install a: c: \pcbill (Install in directory C:\PCBILL)
install a: d: (Install in root directory of drive D:)
5. IF and ONLY IF you are UPGRADING FROM VERSION 3.2 OF PC/BILL ...
you must convert the TIMEKPR file. Beginning with version 3.3
you can have 6 rates for each of a maximum of 20 timekeepers.
This requires a different format for the TIMEKPR file.
To create a copy of your ver 3.2 TIMEKPR file in ver 3.3 format
enter ver33 at the DOS prompt. This will run VER33.BAT which
will backup your old TIMEKPR file to TIMEKPR.BAK and create a
new TIMEKPR file compatible with version 3.3 of PC/BILL. This
should be done ONE TIME ONLY when upgrading from ver 3.2.
