Thanks for trying Exam Bank v.2.0!
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO GET STARTED
All Exam Bank files (including this one) must be located in
the program directory, or the program will not run.
EXAM BANK must open ten or more files at one time. The
DOS default allows only eight files open at one time. The number
of open files allowable may be changed by locating a file called
(exactly) CONFIG.SYS in the ROOT directory of your BOOT disk
(Drive A for floppy disk users, or Drive C if you have a hard
disk. Although some of your software may run without a
CONFIG.SYS file, one is required for this program.
Modify your CONFIG.SYS file, if necessary, to include the
line:
FILES = 15
(or a larger number)
A CONFIG.SYS file containing only the line 'FILES = 15' is
included on the EXAM BANK disk for your convenience. If you
don't have this file on your boot disk, you may copy this
one to the ROOT directory of your BOOT disk. It is not
needed in the same directory as the program files.
Your computer's performance may improve if your CONFIG.SYS
file also contains the line:
BUFFERS=15
although this is not absolutely necessary to run the program.
If this is confusing to you, get someone who is comfortable
with computers to help you set up your CONFIG.SYS file.
Reboot your computer after you have made these changes.
PRINTING A MANUAL
While in the program directory, turn your printer on and
type PRMANUAL <Enter>. The Exam Bank manual (about
30 pages) will be printed.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM
You should as a minimum read the "Jump Start" page of
the manual before running the program. Then, while in the
program directory, type EB <Enter>.
REGISTRATION
Show your support for writers of quality shareware programs
by registering your copy. While in the program directory,
turn your printer on and type REGISTER <Enter> to print a
registration form. A fee of $30 is requested from
individuals who use this program in their work. Schools,
commercial enterprises, municipal and government agencies
may register all instructors and staff at one site for $60.
Site registration includes a complimentary copy of COMBINE,
the Exam Bank Utility for combining tests for Midterms, Finals,
etc. School registrations provide the same benefits for
upgrades and future releases from Education Software.
SHARE THE PROGRAM WITH OTHERS
Please share complete copies of Exam Bank with your
colleagues in the field of education. Copy diskettes for your
colleagues only from your original distribution diskette. It
can be confusing to a new user if files described in the
manual are missing, or if you have changed default settings
described in the manual.
UPGRADING TO VERSION 2.0 FROM VERSIONS 1.0 THROUGH 1.5
This diskette contains Exam Bank V:2.0.
Version 2.0 differs from V:1.5 in that it has freeform
multiple choice entry (eighteen lines for entering questions
and answers any way you want, with any number of answers, side
by side, etc. Only the lines you use will be printed.). It
also supports forced monochrome mode for laptop owners and
others who may have a color card driving a monochrome monitor
(V:2.0 will provide greater screen contrast).
If you are happy with EB as it was, you may continue to use
V:1.5, however only V:2.0 will receive future upgrades.
Registered users who want to upgrade may order a combination
package which contains EB V:2.0, a conversion program which
converts your V:1.x question banks to a form readable by V:2.0,
and V:2.0 of COMBINE which handles the new format. The complete
package is only $20. Type REGISTER at the DOS prompt to print
an order blank.
