  2. READNOW.TXT for Norton Navigator 95.0.b Maintenance Release

  4. This patch is for the English release of Norton Navigator only.
  5.  
  6. This maintenance release adds new features, addresses some compatibility 
  7. issues and offers several performance enhancements to Norton Navigator 
  8. for Windows 95.
  9.  
  10. The enhancements include:
  11. ╖ Faster Norton File Manager load time.
  12. ╖ New integrated viewer pane for Quick View/Quick View Plus
  13. ╖ XTree Gold mode
  14. ╖ DMF Format utility (supports both format and copy)
  15. ╖ User Profile support
  16. ╖ File Assist now works with Office 95
  17. ╖ Faster common file operations in the Norton File Manager, such as 
  18.   Move, Copy, and Delete
  19. ╖ Faster startup of Windows 95
  20.

  25. How to apply the maintenance release to Norton Navigator 1.0 or 95.0.a
  26. ======================================================================
  27. Check the "About box" in Norton File Manager (access from the Help menu)
  28. to see which version you currently have installed.  Make sure you have 
  29. the correct patch file for that version.  NNPATCH will not allow you to 
  30. patch the incorrect version.

  32. To perform the upgrade, while in Windows, change to the folder or disk 
  33. containing the update files and double-click on the file NNPATCH.  The 
  34. update can take a long time to complete.

  37. Installing the patch from floppy disks
  38. ======================================
  39. To copy the patch files so that you can install them from floppy disks, 
  40. copy all the files from the original patch distribution self-extracting 
  41. file to 1.44MB floppies in this order:

  46. PATCH.0
  47. PATCH.DLL
  48. PATCH.INI
  49. PATCH.PIF
  50. READNOW.TXT

  56. To install from this floppy set, insert floppy 1 and double-click on the 
  57. file NNPATCH.

  60. Troubleshooting
  61. ===============
  62. If the files for the previous version of Norton Navigator do not have their 
  63. original date/time stamps, the patch will not update these files.
  64.  
  65. If you currently have multiple users on the system to be upgraded (User
  66. Profile support is enabled), the original user who installed Norton Navigator
  67. should run the upgrade patch.
  68.  
  69. Depending on which options you chose when you installed the previous version
  70. of Norton Navigator, some files may be skipped during the patch process.  
  71. This is normal behavior and these files will not be necessary if they were not 
  72. originally installed.  Here is a list of files that can be skipped:

  74.    ctl3d32.dll,  "Shared 3D support file for Setup" (no longer used)
  75.    mailbusi.ctl, "Online Registration"
  76.    pipeline.dll, "Online Registration"
  77.    pipeline.ini, "Online Registration"

  79.    siwpipl.exe,  "Online Registration"
  80.    sslib.dll,    "Online Registration"
  81.    migrate.exe,  "Desktop Importer"
  82.    migrate.hlp,  "Desktop Importer Help"
  83.    wnmw16.dll,   "Desktop Importer Library"
  84.    wnmw32.dll,   "Desktop Importer Library"

  86. If you encounter further problems installing the Norton Navigator Maintenance
  87. Release, it could be due to damaged or missing critical Norton Navigator 1.0
  88. or 95.0.a files.  To remedy this problem, completely uninstall Norton 
  89. Navigator, reinstall from your original disks, and then run the Norton 
  90. Navigator 95.0.b Maintenance Release patch program (NNPATCH.EXE).
