  2.                 Installing LottoMan
  3. =============================================================================================

  5. Unpacking the distribution files
  6. ````````````````````````````````
  7.     If you've downloaded LottoMan from a bulletin board you should have three files which 
  8. represent the three diskettes on which it normally is distributed: LTTMN10A.ZIP, 
  9. LTTMN10B.ZIP and LTTMN10C.ZIP. To install the program, you will first have to unpack 
  10. these three files using PKZIP 2.04G (or higher) which can be downloaded from nearly any 
  11. bulletin board. If, on the other hand, you've received your copy of LottoMan on diskette, you 
  12. can skip this step and go directly to the program installation step below.
  13.  
  14. 1     Locate the MS-DOS Prompt icon in your program manager groups and double click on it 
  15.     to run a DOS shell. You should see a prompt similar to this C:\WINDOWS
  16.  
  17. 2     Create a temporary directory on your hard disk by typing the command MD \TINSTALL 
  18.     and press <enter>
  19.  
  20. 3     Move to the temporary directory by typing CD \TINSTALL and press <enter>
  21.  
  22. 4     Unpack the download files by using a command similar to the following PKUNZIP 
  23.     \DOWNLOAD\LTTMN*.ZIP and press <enter>. In this case the \DOWNLOAD directory 
  24.     would be the directory that you downloaded the LottoMan program into. If, for example, 
  25.     you are using CompuServe's WINCim programn, the download directory would probably 
  26.     be \CSERVE\DOWNLOAD and you would type PKUNZIP 
  27.     \CSERVE\DOWNLOAD\LTTMN10*.ZIP <enter>

  29.     PKWare's ZIP program will now extract all the files contained in the download archives 
  30.     into your temporary directory.
  31.  
  32. 5     Switch back to your Windows program manager by pressing Ctrl-Esc (press and hold the 
  33.     Ctrl key, press the Esc key then release both keys. Windows will display a list of the 
  34.     progam you have running. Use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to move 
  35.     the highlight to the line that says Program Manager and press <enter>

  38. Program installation
  39. ````````````````````
  40.     Before you can use LottoMan, you will have to properly install it on your hard drive. 
  41. LottoMan requires roughly 3,500,000 bytes of available disk space to be installed. For the
  42. most part, the installation is completely self driven and requires little from you. The steps 
  43. below outline the installation process.
  44.  
  45. 1     If you are installing LottoMan from floppy disk, place the disk labeled Install Disk 1 of 3 in 
  46.     your disk drive (most likely drive A)
  47.  
  48. 2     Select the File menu option in the program manager by clicking on the word file or press 
  49.     Alt-F. From this menu, select the Run option by clicking on the Word run or pressing R.
  50.  
  51.     Windows will display a dialog box asking for the name of the program you want to run.
  52.  
  53. 3     If you are installing LottoMan from floppy disk type A:\SETUP and press <enter> (If the 
  54.     installation disk is in a different drive than drive A:, substitute the correct drive letter for 
  55.     the A:).

  57.     If you are installing from a temporary directory on your hard disk, type 
  58.     C:\TINSTALL\SETUP and press <enter> (If your temporary directory was on a drive other 
  59.     than drive C, substitue the correct drive letter for the C:)

  61. 4     The installation program should now load and display the readme.txt file which is shipped 
  62.     with LottoMan. This file contains any last minute information about the program as well 
  63.     as information about the installation set. Take a moment to read the file and click on 
  64.     Continue when you are done.
  65.  
  66. 5     The setup program will now display a dialog asking for the name of the directory you 
  67.     want to install the LottoMan program into and the installation method to use. By default, 
  68.     the installation directory will be C:\LOTTOMAN. If you would prefer to install the program 
  69.     into a diferent drive or directory,type in the path you want to use. Do NOT press <enter>.

  71. 6     Click on the option that says Do not overwrite existing files that are newer. This ensures 
  72.     that all of the LottoMan files you need will be installed but any files you already have 
  73.     which are more current than the ones in the distribution set will not be overwritten with an 
  74.     older file.

  76. 7     When you are ready to begin the installation, click on the Continue button. You can, of 
  77.     course, quit the installation at any time by clicking on the Cancel button.

  79.     Setup will now begin copying the LottoMan files onto your hard drive. If you are installing 
  80.     from floppy disk, you will be asked to insert disk 2 of 3 and disk 3 of 3 as the installation 
  81.     progresses. Each time you are prompted, remove the diskette currently in the drive, 
  82.     insert the diskette that you are being asked to use and click on the Ok button.

  84. 8     Once all of the program files have been properly installed on your hard drive, the setup 
  85.     program will create a LHE program group in program manager and add icons for running 
  86.     the LottoMan programn, accessing LottoMan's help and for reading the readme.txt file 
  87.     that setup showed you previously.

  89. You are now done with the installation and ready to start using LottoMan. We suggest you 
  90. now take a moment to run the LottoMan Help and read the topics on number theory, using 
  91. the self test, using the vector analysis and picking your numbers. This will help you get the 
  92. most out of the program.

  94. If you are installing LottoMan from floppy disk, you should remove the last diskette from your 
  95. disk drive and store your disks in a safe place. If, on the other hand, you are installing from a 
  96. temporary directory on your hard drive, you should continue with the installation cleanup topic 
  97. below.

  100. Installation cleanup
  101. ````````````````````
  102. If you've installed your copy of LottoMan from a tempory directory on your hard drive, there 
  103. are duplicate copiesw of the program files in this directory which are wasting disk spaace. 
  104. These files need to be deleted. To do so, flollow the steps below...

  107. 1     Switch back to the MS-DOS prompt by pressing Ctrl-Esc, again, to get the list of 
  108.     Windows programs you saw before. Use the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard to 
  109.     move the highlight to the line that says MS-DOS Prompt and press <enter>.

  111.     Windows will bring the MS-DOS shell window back to the top. You should still see a 
  112.     prompt something like C:\TINSTALL>.
  113.  
  114. 2     Type in the command DEL \TINSTALL\*.* and press <enter>. MS-DOS will display a 
  115.     message telling you that all files in the directory will be deleted and asking if you are 
  116.     sure you want to do this. Assuming you've typed in the command as shown above, press 
  117.     Y. If you aren't sure, press N and make sure you do have the right tempory directory.

  119.     MS-DOS will delete all of the installation files and return you to the DOS prompt.

  121. 3     Type in the command CD \ and press <enter> to move back to the root directory on your 
  122.     hard drive.

  124. 4     Type in the command RD \TINSTALL and press <enter> to delete the temporary 
  125.     directory we created.

  127. 5     Type in the command EXIT and press <enter> to cloise the MS-DOS Shell window and 
  128.     return to Windows.

  130. The installation cleanup is now complete and everything should be back to the way it was 
  131. when you started with the exception of the fact that we now have LottoMan installed. You 
  132. might want to consider copying the download files (LTTMN10*.ZIP) to floppy disk to save 
  133. them in case you every need to install the program again and then delete these files from 
  134. your download directory. The download files occupy about 1.5 meg on your hard drive.
