UPGRADE HISTORY
Puzzler version 3.0 is the first public release of Puzzler for DOS.
==================================================================
BACKGROUND
The original idea for Puzzler came from a teacher, Tom Vogt, in Clinton
Wisconsin.
Version 1.0 of Puzzler was released in 1984 for the TRS-80 Color Computer.
It was written in 6809 assembly language and was published by Color
Connection Software.
Version 2.0 followed in 1985, also for the Color Computer. The crossword
algorithm was improved--Puzzler could place more words and do it more
quickly then in version 1.0.
From 1986 - 1988 the author was called to serve in Japan as an LDS
missionary. At this time Color Connection Software was closed, and not long
afterwards, the Color Computer itself faded into relative oblivion--have
you ever heard of it?
In 1989 Puzzler's crossword algorithm was converted into the C language
and compiled to run under DOS on the IBM PC. Until 1992, Puzzler for DOS
could only display crosswords on the screen, and wasn't released publicly.
In 1992 Tom Vogt offered to fund further development of Puzzler for DOS,
and in 1993 he became the first beta tester of the full DOS program. In
1994 the crossword output routines were rewritten to automatically size
the boxes and text to fit on one page.
During the first part of 1995, improvements were made to the wordsearch and
wordscramble printouts, and Puzzler for DOS was prepared for its first
public release.
Now that it is finally here, I hope you are able to use and enjoy Puzzler!
