  1. NOTE:     This is a page taken from the manual (file: MANUAL.TXT).  It is
  2.           placed here for your convenience.  Please note that this current
  3.           version of FundRaiser Basic was released about the same time as
  4.           Windows 95, so these instructions may be slightly different for
  5.           that new release.

  7.           And, yes, I am working on a Windows version.  I expect it to be
  8.           available in mid 1996 - but this is not a promise.  However,
  9.           registered users of this DOS version will be able to upgrade to
  10.           the Windows version for a reasonable amount, and will be the 
  11.           first to hear about it.  Any of you want to be a beta tester?

  15.                              Running FRB through Windows 3.1
  16.                              -------------------------------
  17.           
  18.             FundRaiser Basic was not written specifically for the Windows
  19.           environment.  However, like most DOS programs, it can be run as
  20.           a "non-Windows application" from within Windows. We do not
  21.           recommend this unless you work primarily in Windows, and find
  22.           yourself frequently going back and forth between the two.
  23.           
  24.             If you must run FRB through Windows, here are our
  25.           recommendations: you must have at least 4Mb of RAM, and run
  26.           Windows (version 3.1) in 386-enhanced mode; you must also
  27.           increase the number of file handles in your CONFIG.SYS
  28.           file....the number will depend on what other programs you run
  29.           through Windows; try increasing it to 47.  If you get a file
  30.           error, increase it in increments of 2 until the problem goes
  31.           away; then increase it by 2 more, for good measure.

  33.             To install FRB in Windows, go to the Program Manager; open the
  34.           Group you want to place FRB in.  Click on Program Manager's
  35.           "File", then "New"; select "Program Item", then click on "OK".

  37.             You should now find yourself in the "Program Item Properties"
  38.           window. In the "Description" box, enter:  FundRaiser Basic.  In
  39.           the Command Line box, enter: FRB.  In the "Working Directory"
  40.           box, enter: C:\FRB (assuming that this is where you installed
  41.           FundRaiser).

  43.             Now click on "Change Icon".  You will be alerted that you must
  44.           choose one from the Program Manager; click on "OK".  Scroll to
  45.           the right to find an icon that appeals to you (most people seem
  46.           to choose either the safe or the mailbox).  Click on the icon
  47.           that you choose; then click on "OK". Back in the Program Item
  48.           Properties window, click on "OK".  After a moment, you will see
  49.           your icon installed in your selected Group.

  51.             Finally, edit the PIF file: Open the "Main" Group and
  52.           double-click on the "PIF Editor" to open it.  (The title bar
  53.           should be (Untitled).  If not, click on File, then New.)  In the
  54.           "Program Filename" box, enter:  FRB.EXE.  In the "Window Title"
  55.           box, enter: FundRaiser Basic.  In the "Start-up Directory" box,
  56.           enter:  C:\FRB (or whatever matches the Working Directory
  57.           above).

  59.           The next six choices should be marked as follows:  
  60.             Video Memory        must be    Text 
  61.             Memory Requirements must be    520 Required, 640 Desired.  
  62.             EMS Memory          should be  0 Required, 1024 Limit.  
  63.             Display Usage       can be either choice, but most people
  64.                                   prefer Windowed. 
  65.             Execution           the choice is yours, but be sure that 
  66.                                   Close Window on Exit is checked ON.

  68.             When you're finished, click on "File", then "Save".  Under
  69.           "File Name", enter: FRB, and click on "OK".  Close the Editor
  70.           window.  You're now ready to start FundRaiser Basic.
