What is PCX2TXT?
A small shareware DOS utility to convert low-resolution PCX
images to ASCI text files.
What good is that?
You can easily add fancy (or corny) graphic designs to your e-mail,
newsgroup postings, etc.
How do I use it?
1.
Create or edit a 256-color PCX image in your favorite paint program.
I don't recommend using Windows Paintbrush because my copy doesn't work.
Grab a shareware package like Paint Shop Pro(Windows) or Improces(DOS).
2.
Copy the 320x200 or smaller image in the same directory as PCX2TXT.
3.
Type PCX2TXT yourfile.pcx yourfile.txt
4.
Move the cursor around with the arrows key to the area you want
to capture. Press Return.
5.
Use the Up/Down arrow keys to adjust the detail level.
Use the Left/Right arrow keys to cycle through characters.
Press Return to write the new text file.
Press Space to go back and clip another section.
For more info, type PCX2TXT without any file names.
Some tips.......
* Some terminal and e-mail software will not allow you
to use the full 80 character width. Trim images in
your text editor to prevent overlapping.
* Erase unwanted backgrounds by painting over them with
the zero color. <Usually black>
* Posterize photo images. <Check the demo.pcx file>
* Try to avoid photos with tiny details. They become blobs.
* Reducing your image palette from 256 to fewer colors may or may
not work.
