  5. What is TouchPro?
  6. -----------------
  7. TouchPro is a Windows 95/NT 4 extension that allows you to modify or 
  8. "touch", any, or all of a file's time & date values. TouchPro integrates 
  9. seamlessly with the Windows Explorer and appears as an extra tabbed dialog 
  10. in addition to a file's normal property pages. You can modify multiple 
  11. files' time & date values by using a multiple selection and even entire 
  12. selected directory trees. The registered version of TouchPro adds several 
  13. advanced features over the freeware version.
  14.  
  15. This freeware version is available for no charge, but limits the 
  16. facilities to those available with the earlier freeware version.
  17.  
  18. Installation
  19. ------------
  20. TouchPro is supplied as a compressed file archive. Copy the compressed 
  21. file to an empty floppy disk or new sub-directory on your hard disk & 
  22. extract the files. When you have uncompressed the supplied file, you 
  23. should have the following files in addition to the original:

  32. TouchPro.inf    The Setup Information File
  33.  
  34. Select the TouchPro.inf Setup Information File in an Explorer window and 
  35. choose File, Install, or right click on the file and choose the Install 
  36. menu.
  37.  
  38. Installation is quick, merely involving copying of the files to the target 
  39. location on your machine and modification of the relevant registry 
  40. information. TouchPro is now ready to use.
  41.  
  42. How Do You Use It?
  43. ------------------
  44. Select the files that you want to alter the timestamp on in an Explorer 
  45. window.
  46.  
  47. Display the properties by using the File, Properties menu, or, right click 
  48. and choose the Properties menu item.
  49.  
  50. With TouchPro installed you will see an extra "Touch" page in the 
  51. properties dialog.
  52.  
  53. Click on the "Touch" tab to use TouchPro.
  54.  
  55. TouchPro enters the current date & time as a default, and allows you to 
  56. alter them to whatever you want.
  57.  
  58. Select whatever options you want by clicking the appropriate check boxes, 
  59. and use the "Touch Now" button.
  60.  
  61. Registered Version Features
  62. ---------------------------
  63. The registered version of TouchPro adds the following advanced features:
  64.  
  65. Separate time and date modifications. You can alter the time and date 
  66. together, just the time, or just the date.
  67.  
  68. The ability to alter the time & date stamp of folders (this currently 
  69. works only on Windows NT).
  70.  
  71. Control of recursion into folders. You can select folders to have their 
  72. timestamp modified, but prevent TouchPro from modifying the files in & 
  73. beneath those folders.
  74.  
  75. The registered version is available as part of our set of utilities. Price 
  76. £TBA if drawn on a UK bank, or £TBA for a non UK bank. We also hope to be 
  77. able to provide credit card purchasing through a third party.

  79. Note
  80. ----
  81. The OK, and Apply buttons on the main Property Page dialog do not perform 
  82. the touch operation.
  83.  
  84. The file's Last Accessed time will change to the current date & time when 
  85. you touch any of the time & date values. Because any file access can alter 
  86. the Last Accessed time, it may be difficult to ascertain that this feature 
  87. works as some Windows 95 shell features access some types of file to 
  88. determine context sensitivity.
  89.  
  90. FAT file systems can not have files dated before 1 January 1980. TouchPro 
  91. does not attempt to catch this particular circumstance as Win32 allows 
  92. dates before this, and future file systems may permit this obscure 
  93. feature. If you currently try to set the time & date to a value before 1 
  94. January 1980, TouchPro reports the operation has failed in the same as if 
  95. the file were read-only.

  97. FAT file systems have a time resolution of 2 seconds.
  98.  
  99. Limitations
  100. -----------
  101. Time format is currently 24hr format only.
  102.  
  103. TouchPro can only alter the "modified" time value for files stored on 
  104. Novell Netware drives.
  105.  
  106. Currently the retail version can only modify folder times under Windows 
  107. NT.
  108.  
  109. Removal
  110. -------
  111. Use the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs item. Select the TouchPro item 
  112. (listed as "Touch Property Page Extension") and click the Add/Remove 
  113. button.
  114.  
  115. Because the Windows INF de-installer cannot currently delete files that 
  116. are loaded in memory, we recommend that if you want to remove TouchPro, 
  117. that you first reboot your machine, and then remove TouchPro without first 
  118. using it. This will ensure that the files are correctly deleted.
