DavysDingbats is an unusually wonderful TYPE ONE PostScript font full of really cool pictorial characters. It is compatible with Adobe Type Manager version 1.2 or higher. DavysDingbats is NOT free.
To install DavysDingbats, install like any other PostScript font. Remember, using PostScript fonts was Apple's idea, and all the extra work you have to do to install your PostScript fonts is brought to you courtesy of Apple Computer.
There are around 200 pictorial characters of varying use in DavysDingbats. Check the option keyboard for ballerina dancers in various poses, and the option-shift keyboard for some really wonderful Art Nouveau images. Experiment -- find the images that best suit you. Patriots: find an American flag at shift-m; cat-lovers: check in the option keyboard -- 6, t, f, g, h, z, and x. Your font author's personal favorite image in this font is the lilies found at shift-o. The outline (PostScript) version of DavysDingbats is about 150K, thanks to the many complex characters. This means you should use the font in moderation, and not use too many other downloadable fonts in conjunction with it. A whole page of DavysDingbats characters just MAY cause your printer to reset due to memory limitations. Also, the page won't print. But you have taste, right?
DavysDingbats is distributed through the normal shareware channels, and you may give copies to your friends, providing all the files you got in this archive are included, including the file you are reading. You may also upload the archive to other services (I belong only to Compuserve (73240,3060) and GEnie (RAKMAN)) if you want to. Permission is specifically granted to user groups such as Boston Computer Society and BMUG to distribute and charge for DavysDingbats, with the aforementioned restrictions. Permission is SPECIFICALLY DENIED to public domain/shareware outlets to distribute this font without my written permission, with my signature and dated later than January 16, 1991. You may contact me on one of the above services for my permission -- your fee for distributing this font is $200 plus 60 cents per copy sold. No exceptions, except BudgetBytes.
DavysDingbats is distributed under the shareware honor system -- don't ask me why. Other high quality products I have put into the shareware rounds have garnered only feeble response (look at SHPFLTNAT font -- over 1,000 downloads, countless other pd/shareware sales, and ELEVEN registered users -- you slackers really suck! -- some "honor" system, huh?). If you don't use or like DavysDingbats, fine -- erase it, throw the disks away, whatever. May you be forced to watch reruns of "Married With Children" forever. If you do decide to keep DavysDingbats, PLEASE show your appreciation by making a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE contribution to Columbia University of $12.00 or more. Your check should be sent to Cynthia Lemiesz, 703 Dodge Hall, Columbia University, New York, NY 10027. Your donation is made known to me (I am an Assistant Professor in the music department) and your money goes towards the expenses of performing music written by Columbia student composers. IF your donation is made in the amount of $20 or more, I personally will send you a disk, or two, of other shareware fonts created by me, free of additional shareware responsibilities and obnoxious readme files such as this one. If you DO donate $20 or more, please enclose a note saying "Tell Davy about me. Foop!"
DavysDingbats is ⌐ 1991 by David Rakowski. Alle Rechte Vorbehalten. Rights remain with me no matter what you do with your copy of the font. Feedback may (but I'd rather it weren't) sent to me via E-mail at the above E-mail addresses, to rak@woof.columbia.edu, or via U.S. Mail at 2 Shore Drive, Spencer, MA 01562 (address void after August 31, 1991). US mail sent to me without a check written to Columbia University will quickly find a place in our wood stove. So there.
Another incredibly altruistic service brought to you by Bug-Bytes.
