  1. Brief procedure for installation of
  2. Bengali Fonts for windows

  12.   and/or the contents of this disk. Also please do not use

  15.   These Bengali fonts (I named them as Sonar Gaon)
  16.   works with Microsoft WINDOWS and its applications.
  17.   In order to use the Sonar Gaon (and other) Bengali
  18.   fonts, you must have the WINDOWS installed.
  19.  
  20. 1. Install windows (version 2 or higher or windows/286
  21.    or windows 3.x) in a directory called windows. 
  22.    (Windows setup program automatocally proposes this 
  23.    name during installation). Select HP Series II laser 
  24.    printer during the installation.
  25.  
  26. 2. Create a directory called "arfonts" by using
  27.    the following DOS command at the DOS prompt:

  29.    c>md arfonts ─┘ (─┘ = enter)
  30.  
  31. 3. Make the arfonts as the default directory:
  32.  
  33.    c>cd\arfonts ─┘
  34.  
  35. 4. Copy all files from the font disk labeled arfonts
  36.    to the directory arfonts:
  37.  
  38.    copy a:*.* ─┘
  39.  
  40.    These files include printer font files (*.sc*) and
  41.    other utilities.
  42.  
  43. 5. Start installation of the Bengali fonts by using
  44.    the command:
  45.  
  46.    bipw3 ─┘
  47.  
  48.    At the menu screen, change the defaults as necessary.
  49.    The program will create matching screen fonts 
  50.    corresponding to each printer font being installed
  51.    depending on the choices made at the menu screen,
  52.    for example, wheather the graphics adapter is a
  53.    CGA or VGA etc.
  54.  
  55. 6. Note that the installation program assumes that
  56.    the fonts are being installed for a HP series II or III
  57.    laser printer. If you want to chose HP LaserJet +, 
  58.    you can do that by hitting 'P' while in the installation 
  59.    menu. However, these fonts were created for and tested 
  60.    on a HP series II and compatible printers. Equal 
  61.    result should be obtainable with any laser printer 
  62.    that is HP series II compatible and configured as HP II.

  64. 7. Once installation is complete, start windows'
  65.    wordprocessing program "write" by using the command:
  66.  
  67.    win write ─┘
  68.  
  69. 8. While in 'write', Bengali font(s) of different point
  70.    size can be chosen from the 'character', 'Font' menu:

  72.    In write use: alt+C+F (or appropriate menu selection
  73.    by mouse) to choose desired font.

  76.    manual.

  78.  * Note that the Bengali Charter has 3 point sizes:
  79.      10, 18 and 26. These point sizes should actually be
  80.      12, 18 and 28 points.

  82.  ** Once the fonts are installed for windows, any windows
  83.       application can use them. For example, PageMaker, 
  84.       Microsoft Word for Windows, Microsoft Excel, etc.
