New Fonts for Windows - Bill Sellers 1990
*****************************************
This set of fonts for Microsoft Windows is based on the public domain
Table of Coordinates for Hershey's Repertory of Occidental Type Fonts
and Graphic Symbols. This dataset is not particularly useful since it
was first published in 1967 before the days when everyone started coding
characters in some variant of ASCII. It is also not in any format that
anyone actually uses. However, the typefaces themselves are very pretty
with no less than three different types of Gothic font, and they are
coded as vector fonts which allow them to be easily scaled with very
little loss in quality.
Windows handles vector fonts very nicely. It faithfully reproduces them
in any size and on any printer and as a bonus, for once, what you see on
the screen is what you get on the printout. But converting the font data
to a windows font file is monstrous (well it is without any
documentation of the file format!).
To cut a long story short, these font files work with windows. Or at
least they work with Windows Paint, PC Paintbrush, and Micrographics
Designer so I have every reason to believe that they will work with any
windows application that uses the windows vector fonts. You need to
install them like any other windows fonts:
Start up windows.
Start up CONTROL.EXE
In the INSTALLATION menu, select Add New Font
Follow the instructions....
You are asked to select the directory containing the fonts. The
default is the root directory for drive A:. Put the disk with
the fonts in drive A: and click on OK.
Select the font you want to install from the list.
You are then asked to select a destination directory for the
fonts. The windows directory is the default. Click on OK to copy
the font file.
Repeat as necessary to install the fonts you want.
The fonts available are as follows:
CyrilC - 32 cyrillic character in upper and lower case.
GothGE - Letters and numbers for German gothic.
GothIT - Letters and numbers for Italian gothic.
GothGE - Letters and numbers for Old English gothic.
GreekC - 24 greek characters in upper and lower case (multilined).
GreekS - 24 greek characters in upper and lower case (single lined).
RomanC - Letters and numbers in a multilined serifed style.
RomanD - Letters and numbers in a multilined san-serif style.
RomanS - Letters and numbers in a single lined san-serif style.
ScripC - Letters and numbers in a cursive script style (multilined).
ScripS - Letters and numbers in a cursive script style (single lined).
All the above fonts contain the standard ASCII sets of punctuation from
32 to 127
And just for fun:
Symbol - a set of 95 assorted symbols: astrological, astronomical,
musical and cartographical.
