This is the README.TXT file distributed with
Icon Manager for Windows NT version 3.4.
Awarded 1st Place - Microsoft Windows NT
Shareware Contest
OVERVIEW
--------
Icon Manager is a powerful tool for working with
icons in the Windows NT operating environment. The
same drag-and-drop interface used by Program Manager
allows icons to easily be moved, copied, and organ-
ized into files within Icon Manager. Unlike other
applications which offer awkward procedures for
installing icons into Program Manager, Icon Manager
will install icons into Program Manager or Norton
Desktop DIRECTLY using the wizardry of Windows'
Dynamic Data Exchange. For those who would like
to create or edit their own icons, Icon Manager
taps the power of OLE to whisk you into a edit
session with Paintbrush by just double-clicking on
an icon. All of these features and more make
Icon Manager the most complete icon tool available
for the Windows operating environment.
This version of Icon Manager has been created
specifically for the Windows NT operating system.
REGISTRATION
------------
Icon Manager is not free software. It is released
as shareware, which provides the opportunity for
the program to be evaluated before it is purchased.
We hope that after you try Icon Manager you will
like it so much that you will want to register.
By doing so you are voting with your pocketbook for
us to continue developing high-quality, Windows
shareware.
Complete information on how to register Almanac
is included in the REGISTER.TXT file.
DOCUMENTATION
-------------
Icon Manager includes on-line help that covers all
aspects of program operation. It can be accessed
directly from Icon Manager's menu bar by selecting
'Help'.
INSTALLING ICON MANAGER for the WINDOWS NT O/S
-----------------------------------------------
Icon Manager should be installed while running
under the logon ID of the Icon Manager user.
Configuration information is maintained for the
user in their area of the system registry.
The Icon Manager package includes a graphical Windows
installation program using the standard name of SETUP.EXE.
You should place all of the files included in the package
on a floppy disk or in a temporary directory of your hard
drive.
SETUP requires about 240K bytes of hard disk space to
complete the installation of Icon Manager.
Run SETUP by selecting the 'Run...' command from the
File menu of Program Manager or File Manager. Enter
"d:\SETUP" as the Command Line, where "d" is the
drive/directory that you are installing Icon Manager FROM
(i.e. A:\SETUP).
SETUP will display an Installation Control window that
it pre-sets with the most common defaults for instal-
lation. Pushbuttons allow you to change any of the
settings to meet your own preferences.
NEW FEATURES IN THE 3.4 RELEASE OF ICON MANAGER
-----------------------------------------------
The following additions and changes have been added in
the 3.4 release of Icon Manager:
- The program has been generally updated to
make it a more solid application when
it encounters unknown or bad data, and
to provide feedback to the user to indicate
the source of the problem.
- The Status bar now displays the progress
while sorting (aligning) icons and the
progress of multiple icon moves or copies.
- A Most Recent Used (MRU) file list has
been added to the File menu. The last
four files that are opened or saved will
be available at the end of the File menu
for quick access.
- Sometimes the icon Arrange commands would
cause an error in version 3.3. This has
been corrected.
- The overall presentation of the program
has been updated with the buttonface
texture and 3D dialog look.
