OCR: 1586 Box Hill has not always had this name and in a famous geography book of 1586 it is called White Hill because of the great white cliffs above the river. We have some evidence that box trees were already growing there at this time. Today most of the white cliffs are covered with trees and grassland. As you can see from this image.
