Wicken Fen has the last remaining example of a windpump which used to pump water from ditches into dykes. It was brought to Wicken and reconstructed in 1956. These old windpumps were taken over by steam, diesel and electricity. The Wicken windpump is still used, but now instead of draining the Fens, it pumps water onto the fen when it is dry.
