File: UNARC11R.INF
Subj: Sysop Information for UNARC11R (RCPM version of UNARC11)
Date: May 24, 1986
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This information is provided for RCPM (remote CP/M) system operators ONLY:
UNARC11R is a version of UNARC11 which has been configured specifically for
remote use on RCPM systems. It offers the same capabilities and command line
syntax as the UNARC utility for private use, EXCEPT for the ability to extract
files to disk (a "no-no" for remote users). The UNARC11R.COM file (4k) is
delivered ready to run on your system with no further changes required.
(NOTE: This program requires a Z80-based computer.)
UNARC11R.COM is identical to UNARC11.COM, with three optional patches which
are described briefly here (and explained in greater detail in UNARC10.INF):
Default Patch
Address Name (UNARC11) (UNARC11R) Reason for Patch
------- ----- --------- ---------- ----------------
104H BLKSZ 0 1 Displays disk sizes as multiples of 1K
bytes, which has widest applicability
for all callers, independent of your
system's block size.
106H HODRV 16 0 Disallows file extraction to disk.
(Use of drive name in 2nd command line
parameter will cause "Invalid output
drive" abort.)
108H TYPGS 0 1 Sets smallest buffering during file
typeout, to minimize viewing waits.
Two other patches which you may wish to make: HIDRV (105H) contains the
number of allowed drives for archive input files (if invalid drives are not
handled elsewhere in your system), and TYLIM (109H) may be set non-zero to
enforce a limit on the number of file lines which may be typed out (if you
prefer callers to download long files).
Note that the above patches require no source code changes to UNARC. In
particular (as of UNARC11), the on-line help message is automatically modified
to remove the examples relating to file extraction operations, and the strange
"T:" syntax of UNARC10 (which worked only with the vanilla CP/M 2.2 CCP) has
been eliminated for file typeout operations.
NOTE
Most of the changes in the UNARC11 update were suggested by
Irv Hoff's modified version of UNARC10, which he called ADIR.
UNARC11R replaces Irv's thoughtful contribution. Of course,
you are free to call the program anything you like, but I
recommend you stick with "UNARC". Despite the similarity to
"LDIR", "ADIR" causes confusion in some circles, since it was
sometimes used as an alias for an earlier program, ARCDIR, by
another author. (One caller told me he passed up ADIR,
thinking it was nothing more than another directory program.)
I feel that UNARC will gain widest acceptance if it is called
by the same name on RCPM's as on private systems. I sometimes
think it's harder to pick a program's name than to write it!
