- Moving around(
- Finding place names(
- Selections(
- Calculations(
- Overlays(
- Customising MAPPER(
- About MAPPER(
- About shareware(
- dlhelp
- Help: Moving around(
- +0There are three ways of moving around in Mapper:O
- You can use the arrow or page keys to scroll the map.O
- You can use 'centre select' to choose the map centreO
- You can 'Find' places or their postcodes and jump to themO
- +1In addition, you can zoom in or out, and increaseO
- +6or decrease the level of town detail to suit yourself.O
- +3The status window can be toggled with Control-Menu.O
- Help: Finding place names(
- +0When asking MAPPER to find a place name, you canO
- +=just give it part of the name if you like, and it will searchO
- +8for any place names containing the phrase you asked for.O
- +6This can be used to advantage when you are not sure ofO
- +;the exact spelling of the place you're after, e.g. Amlwich,O
- +;you could ask for 'aml'. Note that this ability to carry onO
- +6searching after one match is found becomes very usefulO
- +>when looking for 'Manchester', as 'Godmanchester' comes first!O
- Help: Selections(
- +7Every time you Find a place name in MAPPER, it is shownO
- +4in the selection window, bottom-left of your screen.O
- +<There are two selection 'slots', the first is filled by yourO
- +:first successful find, and the second by your second find.O
- +6The crow-line and distance calculations are only validO
- +9when both selection slots are filled. If you Find anotherO
- +2place name, it will overwrite the second slot etc.O
- Help: Calculations(
- +2Once you have two places selected, you can performO
- +6a distance calculation. MAPPER simply draws an 'as theO
- +>crow flies' line, and gives you this distance in miles and km,O
- +3and then gives you an estimate of the 'on-the-road'O
- +/mileage, based on a well-averaged fudge factor.O
- +4Note that if the 'crow-line' intersects any sea, theO
- estimate may be some way out.O
- Help: Overlays(
- +8The idea of the overlays is that having worked out whereO
- +9you are and where you're going (bold type towns and crow-O
- +9line), you can zoom in and overlay the eating and restingO
- +8places, motorways, railways and any other sites or itemsO
- +4of interest in the vicinity. For more information onO
- +6the overlays available or to add your own information,O
- +7please refer to the section on overlays in MAPPER.TXT .O
- Help: Customising MAPPER(
- +9There are various settings (Psion-S) you can tinker with,O
- +8and these are saved as you exit MAPPER and restored whenO
- +:you load the program. Also saved are your current positionO
- +8and zoom level etc. In addition to all this, you can addO
- +:your own place names (Psion-P) to the map, up to a maximumO
- +5of 30, if you're a registered user. And if you make aO
- +<mistake, there's Psion-K to kill it from the additions list!O
- Help: about MAPPER(
- +'MAPPER is (C) UK 1994, Steve LitchfieldO
- +7I wrote MAPPER for my own interest because I was fed upO
- +:not knowing where places and things were! The overlays andO
- +8extras got added later on. If you have ideas or data forO
- +<other overlays, then please get in touch. MAPPER isn't free,O
- +4it's shareware, so if you use it, you should send meO
- ++the registration fee of
- 11. <press ENTER>O
- +4Special thanks to the many registered users who haveO
- +6helped in this project in any way. MAPPER, as with allO
- +5my shareware programs, is dependent for its future onO
- +8registrations by 3a users. The more people who register,O
- +9the more features will get added! The unregistered MAPPERO
- +8is fully working apart from not being able to shrink theO
- +8status window and not being able to add new place names.O
- +3These extra features are enabled automatically whenO
- +1you type in your registration code! <press ENTER>O

- Help: about shareware(
- +6Shareware is a different way of distributing software.O
- +8You are free to copy it to friends, bulletin boards etc,O
