  2. Draw is a graphical bitmap editor for the Psion Series 3 pocket
  3. computer.
  4.  
  5. This document is the Draw user guide for version 1.02 of the
  6. software, dated 4 April 93.
  7.  
  8. Please note that this software is shareware. (See below.)
  9.  
  10. Overview:
  11. This application 
  12. -can create, view and edit PIC bitmaps.
  13. -is not limited by screen size.
  14. -allows 'cut, copy and paste' to a bitmap clipboard.
  15.  
  16. Installation:
  17. 1. Copy DRAW102.OPA to \APP directory on any drive.
  18. 2. Install the application using Psion-I as normal.
  19. When run, it creates a \PIC directory on the default drive, where new
  20. bitmaps will be saved.
  21. N.B.  An example PIC file named 'example.pic' is provided, which can
  22. be copied into a \PIC directory on the default disk. This file was
  23. created using Draw, and shows some of the features available. You can
  24. delete it after you have seen it.
  25.  
  26. Usage:
  27. Create files from the System screen, the same way as standard Psion
  28. applications.
  29. Move the graphics cursor ('+') around the screen with the arrow keys;
  30. use the Control and psion key to increase the movement.
  31. Use a shift key whilst moving to highlight areas as normal, then
  32. delete to cut, 'Copy' to copy graphics back in etc.
  33. Use Enter or Space to set a pixel, or select a tool using a hot-key
  34. or the menu.
  35. Selecting 'Icon' allows the top left 24x24 pixels of the bitmap to be
  36. edited in a magnified window.

  38. Menu:
  39. 1 - File
  40. N - New file.
  41. O - Open file.
  42. A - Save as.
  43. J - Merge in.
  44.     Overlays other PIC bitmaps onto the current drawing. Move the other
  45.     bitmap with the cursor keys until it is positioned correctly then
  46.     press Enter to confirm or Esc to cancel.
  47. X - Exit.
  48.     Leaves the program, saving the bitmap if it has changed.
  49. 2 - Edit
  50. I - Insert.
  51.     Inserts a bitmap from the clipboard into the drawing. Position with
  52.     the cursor keys, then press Enter to confirm, or Esc to cancel.
  53. C - Copy.
  54.     Copys the highlighted area from the drawing into the clipboard,
  55.     overwriting any previous clipboard contents.
  56. S - Save.
  57. U - Revert.
  58. M - Mode.
  59.     Sets the Graphics, Fill and Text mode, used by all the tools. Eg.
  60.     set, replace, invert.
  61. Y - Style.
  62.     Sets the text appearance. Eg. double height, italic, underline. A
  63.     second dialog sets the font used. Can use the Spreadsheet TINY font
  64.     if the SH3.APP application can be found in any \APP dir.
  65. 3 - Tools I
  66. T - Text.
  67.     Places a input text string onto the drawing in the current style.
  68.     Position with cursor keys, then pres Enter to confirm, or Esc to
  69.     cancel.
  70. L - Line.
  71.     Draws an elastic line. The current cursor position is the first
  72.     point. Move the cursor to the second point. The line 'stretches' with
  73.     the cursor. Press Enter to confirm, or Esc to delete.
  74. B - Box.
  75.     Draws a box. The current cursor position is one corner. The box is
  76.     drawn with the diagonally opposite corner at the cursor. Move the
  77.     cursor, then press Enter to confirm etc.
  78. + - Circle.
  79.     Draws a square box as above. The height and width are kept equal to
  80.     each other. When Enter pressed, a circle is drawn, with its diameter
  81.     the same as the box. (The box disappears.)
  82. E - Ellipse.
  83.     Draws an ellipse. The current cursor position is the corner of an
  84.     outlining rectangle. Size the outline rectangle as required then
  85.     press Enter or Esc. For Enter, an ellipse is drawn that fits exactly
  86.     in the outline rectangle. The outline disappears.
  87. K - Icon.
  88.     Shows a 3x magnigication of the top-left 24x24 pixels. Psion-K again
  89.     will close this window.
  90. 4 - Tools II
  91. F - Filled box.
  92.     Same as Box, but filled.
  93. - - Filled circle.
  94.     Same as Circle, but filled.
  95. G - Filled ellipse.
  96.     Same as Ellipse, but filled.
  97. 5 - Alter
  98. R - Rotate.
  99.     Spins the current highlighted area clockwise or anti-clockwise by 90
  100.     degrees.
  101. W - Flip.
  102.     Flip the current highlighted area across a horizontal or vertical
  103.     axis (ie. a mirror image).
  104. H - Shift.
  105.     Drag the pixels in the current highlighted area. Pixels will
  106.     automatically rotate around top/bottom and left/right. This is useful
  107.     for precision positioning of large bitmaps.
  108. D - Dimension.
  109.     Change the size of the current drawing; it can be as large as
  110.     internal memory allows. Gives a warning dialog if the bitmap will be
  111.     clipped.
  112. 6 - Special
  113. Q - Options.
  114.     Allows user-configurable settings to be changed. These currently
  115.     are: icon grid, bitmap number, and cursor type. (Bitmap number
  116.     selects which drawing to load from a multiple-bitmap file.)
  117. P - Pattern.
  118.     Select which pattern a filled shape should be filled with. Eg.
  119.     Solid, clipboard, grey.
  120. Z - Status Info.
  121.     Switches the status box on or off. Displays current cursor position,
  122.     bitmap filename and drive etc.
  123. / - Update Icon.
  124.     Redraws the magnified pixels in the icon window.
  125. V - Version.
  126.     Display Draw application version number.
  127. * - Clipboard.
  128.     Display the clipboard functions: view, clear, open, save as,
  129.     disable.

  131. Known Bugs:
  132. For version 1.02
  133. No scroll bars. These are in the planning stage at the moment. At
  134. first I couldn't see the point of them with no mouse (Hey Psion, how
  135. about a mouse key? Or touch sensitive screen?) but I have had
  136. problems navigating around big bitmaps. So scroll bars should be in
  137. the next version.

  141. a 'Chocolate Island Software' product. You should have the following
  142. files:
  143. 1. DRAW102.OPA - the application.
  144. 2. EXAMPLE.PIC - the example bitmap.
  145. 3. DRAW.TXT - this file!
