  5. Keypad emulation
  6. Is there any code/apps anywhere that does something like TOSHELL but 
  7. emulates the keypads?  I would like to be able to press for example 
  8. CTRL-W and get the word processor or even have programmable keys such 
  9. as CTRL-J for a particular file in the word-processor.

  21. If you look in the code in TOSHELL.OPL you'll see something like
  22.     name$="sys$shll.*"
  23.     pid%=call($0188,addr(name$)+1)
  24. and if you look for "word.*" instead you'll be able to jump to any
  25. running instance of the Word Processor (see the display in Spy for
  26. the "process names" used by the various different apps).

  34. Thanks for your reply David, I don't have the SDK unfortunately so 
  35. there are one or two things I have to guess at. You wrote in your 
  36. last mail;
  37. pid%=call($0188,addr(name$)+1)
  38. but according to the TOSHELL code they use an os() call which is not 
  39. documented in the Programming Manual. I tried a few things last night 
  40. on the RER (train) home, but I do not like changing things like this 
  41. when I don't know what they are doing. I could find myself with a 
  42. crashed S3!
  43. Am I right in guessing that the 26 in the call 
  44. "call($458d,26,$404,0,0,0)" is the charactor to trap?  I am used to 
  45. C++ so #define or even better enum would have been more my style.
  46. Could you or anyone else knock up a quick explanation of program I 
  47. can then modify safely.

  63. Sorry, the TOSHELL.OPL on my hard disk was a bit different from the
  64. one in the FLIST.  The lines
  65.   ax%=$0100
  66.   os($88,...)
  67. are roughly equivalent to the CALL($0188,...) I mentioned.
  68. Yes you're right that the 26 is the character keycode.  In $404, the
  69. $4 in the top byte is the "mask" of modifiers you're interested in
  70. (here, you're interested in the Control modifier), and the $04 in the 
  71. bottom byte is the value you require for the modifiers you've
  72. declared an interest in (ie either set - as here - or unset).  Thus
  73. with a CX% parameter of $404, you definitely want to see the Control
  74. modifier set, but you don't care about any other modifier either way.
  75. And then 26 just happens to be the standard ASCI value for Control-Z. 
  76. But watch out if you try to capture eg Control-I, since you'll
  77. capture Control-Tab at the same time, and likewise Control-M is
  78. indistinguishable from Control-Enter.
  79. Finally, you shouldn't do your machine any damage with the os-calls
  80. in TOSHELL (so long as you don't change their numbers, ie change them 
  81. into other os-calls).

  88. Thanks for the help David, I've now written just about what I wanted. 
  89. Is it possible to get a "hot key" to always open one of my databases? 
  90.  For example I would like to use CTRL-P (p for phone) for my 
  91. "Friends" database whether it is open or not.
  92. Another question while I've got your attention, is it possible to use 
  93. the small font in the spreadsheet for any other apps?
