  7. This program will allow you to load and save
  8. predictive typer lexicons for PenFriend and 'PAL'
  9. (on the IBM PC).
  10.  
  11. You should not run EditLex at the same time as
  12. PenFriend. This is because you may lose your work
  13. when PenFriend quits and saves its lexicon over the
  14. one on disc.
  15.  
  16. To load a file, drag it in to the main EditLex
  17. window.  To save it, drag it from the appropraite
  18. box on the menu of that window.
  19.  
  20. Words which are typed in by the user when PenFriend
  21. is in use are tagged as being unverified. This
  22. allows an experienced user (teacher) to check
  23. through all 'New Words' from the corresponding menu
  24. entry. This allows you to acknowledge a word or
  25. remove it from the lexicon. Thus spelling mistakes
  26. and inappropriate words can be missed out. You can
  27. even change the spelling without altering the
  28. frequency of use, or alter just the frequency.

  30. To check a single word, click on it with the left
  31. hand mouse button.

  33. If a lexicon is known to be correct, you can accept
  34. all the words without going through them
  35. individually.  Similarly, you can mark all words as
  36. invalid by choosing the appropriate menu option.

  38. To learn all the words in a text file (any word
  39. processed file once saved as plain text), drag the
  40. file in to the editor window. This can be done for
  41. several files if desired.

  43. Many future enhancements are planned for this
  44. Editor program
  45.  
  46. The main lexicon for the PenFriend program is stored
  47. in as 'MainLex' in the !PenFriend application
  48. directory. To get at it, hold down shift and double
  49. click on the !PenFriend application. The MainLex
  50. file is automatically loaded when you run PenFriend.
