  12. PipeDream 4 is a fundamental revision of PipeDream 3 with changes in 
  13. almost all areas.   Whilst the most striking areas of improvement are 
  14. its stunning charts, the new spreadsheet power and the upgraded user 
  15. interface, there are many detailed enhancements which are too numerous 
  16. to mention here.  We would like to thank all PipeDream 3 users who 
  17. contributed their ideas in our user surveys and other correspondence.

  138. Seeing is believing!  PipeDream 4 introduces Penguin 
  139. Graphics to the Archimedes in addition to the more 
  140. usual Pie, Bar, Line and scatter charts.  All charts 
  141. are completely dynamic and very fast.  You can 
  142. include overlays with multiple scales.  Highly 
  143. flexible chart editing for fine tuning, including 
  144. adding and deleting data from chart.  One reaction 
  145. was: "PipeDream 4's graphs blow your socks off."
  146.  
  147. PipeDream 4 is, by a wide margin, the finest 
  148. spreadsheet package on the Archimedes.  In addition 
  149. to 162 built-in functions (including full string, 
  150. date, matrix and complex number functions), PipeDream 
  151. 4 provides custom functions for you to program your 
  152. own function libraries, and arrays.  Arrays are 
  153. groups of data within a slot enabling you to perform 
  154. powerful operations very easily. (These are not to be 
  155. confused with Schema's "arrays" which are merely 
  156. ranges.)  PipeDream 4 continues the PipeDream 
  157. tradition by being the fastest ever RISC OS 
  158. spreadsheet whilst providing an even higher level of 
  159. background recalculation.

  161. Other new goodies are names to help define quantities 
  162. like VAT, an optional formula window (which pops up 
  163. only when you ask for it), and function and name 
  164. pasting from the function menu, to reduce the need to 
  165. look in the reference book.

  167. Reformat a marked block.  Useful when changing fonts 
  168. or margin settings.

  170. Repeats the last command.  Gives quick keyboard 
  171. operation for any command.

  173. You can specify template files to help the creation 
  174. of new documents.

  201. height to be used when printing.  Very nice.

  204. closer to other RISC OS applications.  Always use the 
  205. left button to click in slots and mark blocks.

  207. New Mark Block Box for instantaneous setting and 
  208. clearing of blocks.

  210. Short menus are now configurable so you specify only 
  211. those and all those commands you want.  Or you can 
  212. set PipeDream up for someone else to use. 
  213. Particularly useful in  a learning environment.

  215. The function key layout is much simpler than before 
  216. and F3 and F4 are now set to Save and Search.  For 
  217. those whose fingers can't be retrained, a command 
  218. file is provided to configure PipeDream 4 to the 
  219. PipeDream 3 layout.  But learn the new one; it's much 
  220. better.  Really!

  224. These block operations have been reworked and are 
  225. both more powerful and safe.  No more column sliding 
  226. and you can safely move blocks left and right.  Copy 
  227. and move overwrite the target area if it is blank.  
  228. If not, they insert blank slots over the %H2%whole%H2% row 
  229. and then overwrite.  Move and delete clear the block 
  230. and only delete the slots if all slots to the left 
  231. and right are blank, in which case it deletes the 
  232. whole row.  Try it; you'll like it.

  234. This isn't new but it's amazing how many people don't 
  235. know about it.

  237. The position of the caret in the window and the 
  238. position of the window on the screen are remembered 
  239. so you restart exactly where you left off.  This 
  240. saves a lot of time.

  242. The User Guide is no more.  In its place are the 
  243. PipeDream 4 tutorial for new users and the PipeDream 
  244. 4 Reference Guide with its unique cross-referencing 
  245. structure for advanced users.  The PipeDream 3 
  246. documentation was highly praised; we believe this 
  247. documentation is seriously better.
