Help File for QFN. (QFN = Queen Fan Newsletter)
Although QFN is inexpensive it is NOT PD. See below.
IMPORTANT!
----------
QFN is NOT Public Domain, unless 3 months have elapsed since the cover date
of the newsletter.
To find the cover date click Menu over the Main window of the QFN
application once on the icon the icon bar, or over 'Contents' page and
across to the 'Info' section. The date is at the bottom.
If you receive an issue of QFN from a PD library or a BBS (bulletin board)
and the above requitements have not been met I would appreciate some
details.
EASY PEASEY!
------------
I've tried to make this software as easy to use as possible, pointing and
clicking should be intuative, but if you are really stuck, below is a
outline of what you should do to get the most out of QFN.
HELP!
-----
First of all there is a graphical on-line help button on each page of QFN,
once the application has been installed on the icon bar and 'Select' is
clicked over the 'Crown' icon.
If you fail to install QFN for any reason, switch off your machine (and
maybe even without !booting anything) try again. If this fails tel: 01772
556117 OR return the disc to the QFN address (see below) for a replacement
if a Verify fails.
Verify is a menu option on the floppy icon. Insert the QFN disc and select
the Verify option. The disc will be checked for errors, and report them to
you at the end of the check. If there are errors return the disc to the QFN
address for an instant replacement.
Help is also available by pressing the menu, (middle) mouse button over the
Main Menu/Contents page of the newsletter once it's running.
Once Installed
--------------
* Pressing the middle button over the QFN crown on the icon bar will display
the following
Info - Leads to a standard Info Box, about the application.
Distribution - Details who can legally distribute this version of QFN
Subscription - Gives subscription details. Toggle (top right) for address.
Help - Displays graphical help (for 3D buttons) of QFN.
Quit - Quits QFN totally.
Getting 'into' the application
----------------------------
Clicking with the right mouse button on the QFN 'crown' (on icon bar) will
display the initial QFN window - The Main window. This is not just the
newsletter window as there are a few other avenues that you can go down from
here also.
There are 6 icons below the QFN address, which open up differnt areas.
The icons are:
Icon The Comments
-------- ----------------------------------------------------------------
Crown - This displays the newsletter 'Contents' page when clicked.
Picture - Clicking here will open the GALLERY directory (contents vary).
The Eye - Clicking here will open the VIDEO directory (contents vary).
The Lips- Clicking here will open the AUDIO directory (contents vary).
The ? - The directory contaians various thing which don't fit elsewhere.
Help - This displays a graphical help window for all the QFN icons.
A Closer Look at the Newsletter
-------------------------------
As the newsletter is the main part of this application, more help follows:
Clicking on the Crown on the Main page of QFN, will close the current window
and display the 'Contents' page of the newsletter. (You can return to the
Main page by clicking on the icon, 'Return To Main Menu' at the
bottom of the 'Contents' page).
Contents Page
-------------
This is where you choose the area of the newsletter which you'd like to
view. Clicking on any of the text icons (Editorial/Current News/etc) will
display that section in a viewer window on a new page - The Viewer page.
Begin by choosing 'Editorial', this is the first page of the newsletter, and will introduce you to this issue, but you can begin with any section.
You should now see the 'Viewer' page with the text window covering most of
it. At the top of this window is a heading (Editorial ?) which you are
currently viewing. At the right-hand side should be 5 descriptive icons.
The Five Icons
--------------
The Crown at the top doesn't do anything if you click it, it is there to
tell you which issue you are viewing, (check 'Info' box - from the icon bar
if unsure). The help icon at the bottom displays the graphical help window
as previously described. The remaining 3 icons do the following:
Forward Arrow - This icon displays the Next section of the newsletter.
Back Arrow - This take you to the Previous section of the newsletter.
If you are at the begining (Editorial) it will loop around
to the back of the newsletter and display the Classified
section before begining again with the Editorial.
Contents Logo - This is situated above the two arrows. Clicking on this
returns you to the Contents page where you can choose any
area to read, Editorial/Current News/etc
Scroll Text
-----------
As each section is of different lengths, and only a small amount of text is
visible at any one time in the Viewer window, you are able to scroll up and
down (using the scroll bar to the right of the text) just like any other
RISC OS applications. The text is display only, so it can't be edited or
changed.
Any problems. don't hesitate to call me...
