  1. Help File for QFN. (QFN = Queen Fan Newsletter)

  3. Although QFN is inexpensive it is NOT PD. See below.

  5. IMPORTANT!
  6. ----------
  7. QFN is NOT Public Domain, unless 3 months have elapsed since the cover date
  8. of the newsletter.
  9. To find the cover date click Menu over the Main window of the QFN
  10. application once on the icon the icon bar, or over 'Contents' page and
  11. across to the 'Info' section. The date is at the bottom.

  13. If you receive an issue of QFN from a PD library or a BBS (bulletin board)
  14. and the above requitements have not been met I would appreciate some
  15. details.

  18. EASY PEASEY!
  19. ------------
  20. I've tried to make this software as easy to use as possible, pointing and
  21. clicking should be intuative, but if you are really stuck, below is a
  22. outline of what you should do to get the most out of QFN.

  24. HELP!
  25. -----
  26. First of all there is a graphical on-line help button on each page of QFN,
  27. once the application has been installed on the icon bar and 'Select' is
  28. clicked over the 'Crown' icon.
  29. If you fail to install QFN for any reason, switch off your machine (and
  30. maybe even without !booting anything) try again. If this fails tel: 01772
  31. 556117 OR return the disc to the QFN address (see below) for a replacement
  32. if a Verify fails.
  33. Verify is a menu option on the floppy icon. Insert the QFN disc and select
  34. the Verify option. The disc will be checked for errors, and report them to
  35. you at the end of the check. If there are errors return the disc to the QFN
  36. address for an instant replacement.

  38. Help is also available by pressing the menu, (middle) mouse button over the
  39. Main Menu/Contents page of the newsletter once it's running.

  41. Once Installed
  42. --------------
  43. * Pressing the middle button over the QFN crown on the icon bar will display
  44.   the following
  45.  
  46.   Info         - Leads to a standard Info Box, about the application.
  47.   Distribution - Details who can legally distribute this version of QFN
  48.   Subscription - Gives subscription details. Toggle (top right) for address.
  49.   Help         - Displays graphical help (for 3D buttons) of QFN.
  50.   Quit         - Quits QFN totally.

  53. Getting 'into' the application
  54. ----------------------------

  56. Clicking with the right mouse button on the QFN 'crown' (on icon bar) will
  57. display the initial QFN window - The Main window. This is not just the
  58. newsletter window as there are a few other avenues that you can go down from
  59. here also.

  61. There are 6 icons below the QFN address, which open up differnt areas.
  62. The icons are:

  64. Icon      The Comments

  66. Crown   - This displays the newsletter 'Contents' page when clicked.
  67. Picture - Clicking here will open the GALLERY directory (contents vary).
  68. The Eye - Clicking here will open the VIDEO directory (contents vary).
  69. The Lips- Clicking here will open the AUDIO directory (contents vary).
  70. The ?   - The directory contaians various thing which don't fit elsewhere.
  71. Help    - This displays a graphical help window for all the QFN icons.

  74. A Closer Look at the Newsletter
  75. -------------------------------
  76. As the newsletter is the main part of this application, more help follows:

  78. Clicking on the Crown on the Main page of QFN, will close the current window
  79. and display the 'Contents' page of the newsletter. (You can return to the
  80. Main page by clicking on the icon, 'Return To Main Menu' at the
  81. bottom of the 'Contents' page).

  83. Contents Page
  84. -------------
  85. This is where you choose the area of the newsletter which you'd like to
  86. view. Clicking on any of the text icons (Editorial/Current News/etc) will
  87. display that section in a viewer window on a new page - The Viewer page.

  89. Begin by choosing 'Editorial', this is the first page of the newsletter, and will introduce you to this issue, but you can begin with any section.

  91. You should now see the 'Viewer' page with the text window covering most of
  92. it. At the top of this window is a heading (Editorial ?) which you are
  93. currently viewing. At the right-hand side should be 5 descriptive icons.

  95. The Five Icons
  96. --------------
  97. The Crown at the top doesn't do anything if you click it, it is there to
  98. tell you which issue you are viewing, (check 'Info' box - from the icon bar
  99. if unsure). The help icon at the bottom displays the graphical help window
  100. as previously described. The remaining 3 icons do the following:

  102. Forward Arrow  - This icon displays the Next section of the newsletter.
  103.  
  104. Back Arrow     - This take you to the Previous section of the newsletter.
  105.                  If you are at the begining (Editorial) it will loop around
  106.                  to the back of the newsletter and display the Classified
  107.                  section before begining again with the Editorial.

  109. Contents Logo  - This is situated above the two arrows. Clicking on this
  110.                  returns you to the Contents page where you can choose any
  111.                  area to read, Editorial/Current News/etc
  112.  
  113. Scroll Text
  114. -----------
  115. As each section is of different lengths, and only a small amount of text is
  116. visible at any one time in the Viewer window, you are able to scroll up and
  117. down (using the scroll bar to the right of the text) just like any other
  118. RISC OS applications. The text is display only, so it can't be edited or
  119. changed.
