IDES - Icon Designer - (c) 1992-1994 ACB Software
Documentation date: 31/1/94
This program is FREEWARE - no charge is made, just enjoy it!
Please distribute this package as a complete ZIP file with:
IDES.TXT - This text file
IDES.OPA - The main application file
STDLIB.OPO - Standard OPL routines used by IDES
To install:
Copy IDES.OPA to any \APP directory and install it from the system screen
with PSION-I
Copy STDLIB.OPO into the \OPO directory on your M: drive (internal)
IDES looks for icons/pictures in a \PIC directory, so if you have any .PIC
icon files you wish to edit, place them there.
Usage:
If you already have some pictures or icons in a \PIC directory, select one
and IDES will load with the selected icon. Otherwise, press PSION-N and enter
a new filename.
The Series 3a will take a few moments to read the icon and display it.
You will be presented with the main screen. From here, you can use the arrow
keys to move the cursor and the RETURN and "/" keys to set the black and grey
pixels respectively.
The whole icon can be shifted in any direction using the "Shift" menu. You
can also turn a grid on or off using the "Grid" menu.
To exist, use PSION-X and the current icon will be saved (if it has changed).
Notes:
If you start IDES with a picture that is bigger than the normal icon size
(48 x 48), then you will be shown the full screen view of the picture. Use
the arrow keys to move the black square and press RETURN when the square is
over the part of the picture you want to grab. The section of picture will
now be turned into an icon, ready for editing. (This is useful for altering
other people's icons - pressing PSION-SHIFT-S from the System screen dumps
a copy of the screen to M:\SCREEN.PIC. This file can then be loaded into IDES
and the relevant icon can be grabbed!).
Bug:
If you load an icon when the System screen says "Updating Files", you will
get garbage! This is due to a bug in gPEEKLINE (yes!, I'm reading it from the
screen rather than from the file!).
History:
1/8/92 - Work started on shaky Series 3 version
12/11/92 - Series 3 version updated to a "proper" application
3/11/93 - Series 3a conversion started
26/11/93 - Series 3a version completed
31/1/94 - Series 3a version released into the public domain as FREEWARE
What's this STDLIB thing then?
STDLIB.OPO is simply a collection of commonly used OPL routines that I can't
be bothered to code into each application I write. Most other ACB Software
packages use STDLIB - it keeps down the code size of individual applications
if they can call on a standard library of routines.
If there is a demand, I'll release the STDLIB documentation.
What other packages are available from ACB Software?
- ACBDOS (to be released soon)
o Command interpreter for the Series 3a
o Allows most MS-DOS commands
o Will play music and samples
o Will display pictures, text files, etc
o Allows connectivity between PCs and Series 3as

o Comes with product and manufacturer databases
- Chardes - character set designer (to be released soon)
o Allows generation of .FSC font files
o Can generate proportional fonts

o ACBDOS and STDLIB support exists for playing songs
- Boxer (to be released in a couple of months!)

Note: the above applications are for the Series 3a ONLY. If there is any
demand, I'll dig out the old Series 3 versions and stick them on an ftp site.
