This is the ARM Linux distribution.
*** (ONLY FOR A5000 & HARDWARE COMPATIBLES) ***
For those with WEB access, please see:
http://whirligig.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~rmk92/armlinux.html
Alternatively, mail me at rmk92@ecs.soton.ac.uk.
Thanks. Russell King.
*** IMPORTANT NOTES ***
1) the boot-loader for what will be 1.3.35 has changed which makes it
incompatible with previous versions. The new bootloader is not
yet available, but when 1.3.35 comes out, a new version of 1.1.59
will be released that works with this loader.
2) the expansion card allocation system has been totally re-written
in 1.3.35, so please bear this in mind when writing device drivers.
The directory structure is now in a state of flux while I re-organise
it for the 1.3.35 release. Please be patient for this since it is
again quite a big distribution. I am creating some installation disks
as well. Mail me if you require details.
Don't bother getting the current version unless you *really* need it.
The new one will be out very soon. [Yes, I know I keep on saying that
but when I find that the kernel seizes and won't tell me why then I
think that if I did release it, I'd just get *lots* of mail!]
Notes:
* Please use !SparkFS or !SparkPlug to uncompress the
.zip files in new/boot.
* The files in new/base are disk images. Use rawrite
or the equivalent to get them onto disks.
(or '*copy <file> adfs::0' ~CF should work). DO
NOT COMPRESS THEM - THEY CONTAIN GZIPPED DATA.
I have found that SparkFS creating PKZip files
*totally* messes gzip files up!!!
* Anyone mirroring this site - could they please keep
track of who takes copies [I would like to know
some statistics please], and I would apprechiate some
mail to let me know that you are mirroring me!
* On the configuration, the password defaults to <cr> (the
enter key). It will then prompt you for a new password.
Note that it is not possible at the moment to change it
afterwards!
* There are two mailing lists that I subscribe to where I will
put information about Linux releases, and various discussions.
They are arm-linux@tardis.ed.ac.uk, linux-arm@vger.rutgers.edu.
To subscribe to arm-linux@tardis.ed.ac.uk, send some mail to
'majordomo@tardis.ed.ac.uk', with the body of the mail containing
'subscribe arm-linux'.
To subscribe to linux-arm@tardis.ed.ac.uk, send some mail to
'majordomo@vger.rutgers.edu', with the body of the mail containing
'subscribe linux-arm'.
Both these mailing lists appear to have the same information on
them, so pick one, or both.
If you want to send me some money for this project, then I can be
contacted at:
28 Waterer Gardens

Thanks a lot.
Sources
-------
Most sources can be found on slackware or sunsite (sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk
mirrors both). If you can't find something, then please mail me, and I'll
let you know either where to get it from, or I'll upload it.
Note that this is not a binary-only distribution - most of the source is
available elsewhere, and patches are being sent to the developers as
appropriate, but there may be a few packages where this is not the case.
Please mail/snail mail me if you find any...
