Prettify!
Have you ever looked at Windoze '95 and thought we Acorn users could do with
such nice start-up screens/ shutdown screens (the best bit of Windoze!)?
Well, here is a way of providing them...
All the files here are © Andrew Hunter, 1996, and are FREEWARE. You may copy
them freely so long as the original files remain intact, you don't try to
take credit and you don't charge an enormous fee for so doing... Also the
author disclaims any resposibility for crashed hard discs/lost sleep/etc
arising through your use or misuse of this software.
DrawFile is © Acorn Computers Ltd. I have distributed it as part of the
application, which admittedly bends the rules slightly on its distribution,
but I thought a full copy of !System/!SysMerge/etc was a bit much...
Sorry. Have to do that, though, 'cos I don't want anybody sueing me...
Anyway, to use these aptly named utilities, all you have to do is make sure that
they are loaded before the desktop starts (!AcornLogo is best loaded before
anything else, so stick it in your !Boot.!Run file, just after the bit that
says 'Set Boot$Dir <Obey$Dir>' or similar...). You now have a new desktop
banner, a swish animation, and a better shutdown sequence.
Customising
-----------
Obviously you might want to change the things that come up. Well, the AcornLogo
animation is easily changed by anyone who knows about BASIC. !Prettify
contains several files which may be of interest to the customiser:
'Welcome' contains the Drawfile that is loaded & displayed on desktop startup.
Feel free to edit it any way you like.
'ShutDown' is the obey file executed to intercept a system shutdown.
'Common' is a load of WIMP functions you might steal for your own programs
(feel free!)
'Bzzt', goes, well, bzzt.
'Reset' - resets the machine immediately after system shutdown.
