  2. Read_Me file for NEC printers.

  5. The "NEC.P6-Plus" printer definition file is for
  6. use with the NEC P6 Plus and NEC compatible 24 pin
  7. printers. Most of the graphics resolutions are 24
  8. pin dumps. The 360 DPI vertical resolution
  9. graphics dumps are interlaced and as such require
  10. the support of the FS "3" <n> control sequence to
  11. set n/360  inch line pitch. Note that colour
  12. printing should only be selected if you have
  13. installed a colour ribbon in your NEC P6 Plus -
  14. the ribbon that comes with the NEC P6 Plus is
  15. black only. ISO Latin 1 text characters are
  16. obtained by using ESC "t" 1 and ESC "6" to select
  17. IBM character set 2 instead of italic characters
  18. for the top bit set printer characters. In
  19. addition ESC "R" <n> sequences are used to print
  20. some of the characters.

  22. The "NEC.P6-Plus" file will in fact work with many
  23. Epson compatible 24 pin printers, with the
  24. exception of the 360 DPI vertical resolution
  25. graphics modes which use the NEC specific command.

  27. Colour printing is available at all supported
  28. resolutions, but it should be noted that the
  29. interlaced graphics printouts ie. 180 by 360 DPI
  30. or higer, result in a large number of print head
  31. passes (8 or 16) over the same line on the paper
  32. and on the second or subsquent interlace passes,
  33. the light ribbon colours are printed on top of
  34. dark colours already on the paper. This may cause
  35. contamination of the lighter ribbon colour.
