MarkSheet
Program written by Nicholas Marriott © NSoft 1994,1995
Help file written by Stuart Marriott
1. Purpose
This program enables teachers and lecturers to collect, display, manipulate
and print students' marks. It is possible to enter up to nine marks (in
letter or number format) for each of 250 students. For each set of marks
the program provides a numerical total, a final percentage, and an overall
letter grade.
2. Loading the program
Double-click on the !MarkSheet icon. Once loaded, the program icon appears
on the iconbar and the main window opens.
3. The main window
The yellow band indicates where entries are currently possible. Initially the
band indicates the red OUT OF numbers. Press return after entering the first
OUT OF number, or click in the next box in the row. Not all the MARK columns
need to be used; more can be added if required: see section 4 below.
Click in any row beneath the OUT OF marks, and the name and marks of
individual students can be entered. The program automatically provides a
total and an overall percentage.
Marks can be entered in numbers in the lower section of each box, or in
letter format in the upper section of each box. If letters are entered the
program will provide the numerical equivalent, and vice versa.
Letter grades between A+ and F- can be used. For example, letter grades in
the following styles are accepted:
B- C C+ C/C+ C-/D+ D+/C- A/A+ A/A- A-/A
Other formulations (e.g. G, AA-, or C++) are not accepted by the program.
The numerical equivalent of letter grades is set from a textfile (MarkList)
within the program. This can be altered by pressing Shift and double-clicking
on !MarkSheet on the disc and then loading MarkList into a text editor
(such as Edit) for alteration.
Typing mistakes and other errors will not usually be accepted by the program;
however, some types of mistake will generate an error message.
4. The Main Menu
Clicking the Menu button accesses the main menu. Most of the options are
self-explanatory and work in the usual Risc OS manner but note:
Print: requires an appropriate printer driver to be loaded,
Sort rows: this sorts by alphabetical order of entries in the NAME column.
Operations with the Delete option are irreversible.
Operations with the Alter sheet option can be changed back to their original state.
5. The Icon-bar menu
Clicking the Menu button over the MarkSheet icon on the icon-bar enables a
new sheet to be started, and also provides a means of quitting the program.
6. Example file
Load the Example file by double-clicking on the icon.
