  17.       for the invasion.

  19. comet - Haley's Comet.
  20.  
  21. cook - preparing to feed the troops before the
  22.        battle.
  23.  
  24. death - Edward the Confessor has died and is being
  25.         buried in Westminster Abbey.
  26.  
  27. ed - Edward the Confessor.
  28.  
  29. hrld - Harold is crowned King of England.
  30.  
  31. Hrse - horses in battle.
  32.  
  33. knite - Norman knights.
  34.  
  35. land - the Normans land in England.
  36.  
  37. meal - a meal before the battle.
  38.  
  39. oath - Harold swearing on relics that he will
  40.        be loyal to William.
  41.        These same relics were worn by William at
  42.        the battle of Hastings.

  44. rise - Normans and saxons attack each other and
  45.        die on a steep part of the battlefield.
