Scenario 1: On land
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During an attempt to capture a key enemy airfield, a surprise attack from
the enemy left us with just one airfield and only a few aircraft left. Your
mission is to fly out from our one remaining runway and to recapture each of
the smaller enemy airfields in the area, and, if possible, take on the main
enemy airfield at waypoint 5. This runway is extremely well defended, and
is likely to take a lot of time, effort and aircraft to capture. If you can
recapture the area, however, it could mark a turning point in the war.
You don't need to take out all the buildings in the area, as our bombers
will be mopping up what you leave behind. The bombers will be signalled to
come into the area when the enemy's defences have been eliminated.
These are the buildings which need to be destroyed, in order of priority:
Aircraft hangers: These supply enemy aircraft. Fighter planes form a key
part of the enemies defences, and it is a lot more
difficult to escape a moving target with rader guided
missiles than it is to escape, say, an Anti-Aircraft
gun emplacement.
SAM installations: Since it is difficult to dodge a radar-locked missile,
these must go down. These installations are designed
as defence against high-flying aircraft, and their
radar cannot see anything below 200 feet, so a good way
to approach these is to fly as low as you dare, using
the autostabiliser to keep the aircraft level. Beware,
though, as any evasive action that may become necessary
can bring you into range.
