  12.  Purpose ___________________________________________________________________
  13.  
  14.   WimpTiles is a set of 25 new Pinboard and window backdrop patterns.  It
  15. has a Wimp front-end which allows you to pick and mix the available Sprites
  16. to find a combination you like.

  18.   WimpTiles needs RISC OS 3.50 or later.

  21.  Usage _____________________________________________________________________

  23.   To load WimpTiles double-click on its icon in the filer window where it
  24. resides.  When it loads it will install on the right-hand side of the icon
  25. bar.  Click Select on the WimpTiles icon bar icon to open the main window.

  27.   This window is divided into two sections, one controlling the Window
  28. backdrop and one controlling the Pinboard backdrop.  Both of the sections
  29. are basically the same.

  31.   The section on the left controls what pattern will be used for the
  32. background of ordinary windows.  The pattern currently chosen for this
  33. purpose is displayed in the middle of the section in a ‘trench’ display. 
  34. Below this display is a pop-up menu selector which allows you to choose a
  35. new pattern by clicking on the submenu button and then choosing from the
  36. menu that is shown.  When you choose a new pattern, it will be shown in the
  37. pattern display.  Above the pattern display is an option called ‘Window
  38. Backdrop’, which enables you to stop WimpTiles replacing the default window
  39. tile pattern.

  41.   The section to the right acts in exactly the same way, but controls the
  42. pattern that will appear on the Pinboard.

  44.   The ‘Set’ button on the bottom-right of the window will save your chosen
  45. patterns to a small application called ‘!WimpTiles’ which resides in the
  46. !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks directory.  So when you next re-boot your machine,
  47. they will be automatically installed.  However, for the Pinboard backdrop
  48. pattern to work you must set the ‘Background texture’ to ‘None’ in the
  49. Screen section of the Configure application.

  51.   The ‘Remove’ button will delete the bootup application from the
  52. !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks directory.

  57.  • You can add your own patterns to WimpTiles by creating a directory in
  58.    !WimpTiles.Tiles with the name of your new pattern.  Within this
  59.    directory you create a Sprite called ‘Backdrop’ which is used for the
  60.    Pinboard, and a three-Sprite file called ‘Tile’ which is used for the
  61.    window backdrop.  Typically you will want to make ‘Backdrop’ a 16-colour
  62.    sprite, and ‘Tile’ a Spritefile of three sprites called ‘tile_1’,
  63.    ‘tile_1-8’ and ‘tile_1-16’ which have 16-colours, 256-colours and
  64.    32,000-colours respectively.  You can define tiles for other colour depth
  65.    modes by replacing ‘-16’ with ‘-32’ etc. but they tend to get a bit
  66.    large.
