  40.     I would like to introduce a new kind of review that will appear in
  41. comp.sys.amiga.reviews.  (Thanks to Benbuck Nason, bigben@@netcom.com, for
  42. this suggestion.)  Introducing... the micro-review!  It's only one line
  43. long... so easy that anybody can write one in seconds!!!
  44.  
  45.     Just rate the programs you like or dislike, using a simple scale
  46. (described below).  I will collect the ratings, compute the averages, and
  47. post the cumulative results once every month.

  49.     That's it!!

  51.     Here is an example of a micro-review submission.  Complete
  52. instructions are below.

  65. (1)    Address your e-mail to amiga-reviews-submissions@@math.uh.edu.

  67. (2)    Make the subject of your letter:

  69.         Subject: micro-review

  71. (3)    Rate the products, one per line, listing the product name,
  72.     author/company name, and the rating, in order, SEPARATED BY "|"
  73.     SYMBOLS.  It doesn't matter how many spaces or tabs you use between
  74.     these three fields, as long as you use "|" symbols to separate them.
  75.     (See the example above.)

  77.     Please use the following 5-star rating scale:

  79.         *    Bad.        Avoid this product!
  80.         **    Fair.        It is useful but needs big improvements.
  81.         ***    Average.    It works OK.  Nothing fancy.
  82.         ****    Good.        It works well.  You like using it.
  83.         *****    Excellent.  It works wonderfully.
  84.  
  85.     In addition, you may optionally add a plus sign ("+") to your rating
  86.     to increase it.  For example:

  88.         *+    Bad, but not ALL bad.
  89.         **+    Slightly below average.
  90.         ***+    Above average.
  91.         ****+    Very good.
  92.         *****+    One of THE BEST programs you have EVER used.

  94.     Remember:  FIRST choose the number of stars, and THEN add a plus
  95.     if the product deserves it.

  97.     NOTE:  THERE ARE NO MINUS SIGNS.  ONLY PLUS SIGNS.

  99.     I stole this scale from Peter Thelen (ptlk@@netcom.com) because I
  100.     think it is very simple to use.  He uses it for rating music.

  103. THE MONTHLY REPORT

  105.     Each month, I will post a report which lists for each product:

  107.         o    The average (mean and median) ratings.
  108.         o    The number of submissions.
  109.  
  110.     This is an experiment which will succeed or fail based on your
  111. participation.  Let's give it a try!!  Please take a few minutes and rate
  112. some hardware and software products to help your fellow Amiga users.
