Using the program 42
CharMap
has to be started from the Shell. This is the usage:
CharMap <ILBM> <Target> [<Font> SIZE <Height>] [ANSI]
<ILBM> Name of the IFF-picture to be converted. It must have
2 colors. The size is not limited, though, note that
the right and bottom margin may not be converted com-
pletely, if the width is no multiple of the font's
width or the height is no multiple of the font's
height. You should design your picture to fit these
values or have enough space at the right and bottom.
Otherwise you might get angry when you find out that
CharMap
didn't convert the whole picture.
<Target>
Name of the file
CharMap
writes the ASCII-text to.
<Font> SIZE <Height>
Font that should be used. Proportional fonts aren't
allowed (that is, fonts whose chars differ in width).
Defaults to the ROM-font "topaz.font" (height 8).
ANSI
This switch allows
CharMap
to use the ANSI command that
swaps the foreground- and backgroundcolor (
<CSI>7m
and
<CSI>27m
). On the one hand you often get better
results, on the other hand your text becomes longer. In
order to make future changes of the text more easy,
each line begins and ends with an ANSI command for
reverse-text on or off. The created text may be dis-
played in your Shell or using MuchMore etc.
The calculation can be aborted by clicking on the right mousebutton or pressing
CTRL+C if the Shell-window is active. When the calculation is finished, the
program waits for mouseclick or CTRL+C in the Shell. The returncodes are:
0
Conversion done without errors;
5
User-break;
20
Error occured;
