- Hi! you've probably looked through the upload a little bit, so you already
- know what this is all about. All the same, I thought I'd add a little
- something about the background behind this.
-
- In coming up with these icons and other assorted things, I tried,
- for the most part, to keep these things in mind:
- 1> many people still run a 4-color Workbench.
- (Like me!)
- 2> simplicity and elegance are next to
- perfection. (You can tell I'm a
- mathematician, yes?)
- 3> in spite of #2, any icon works only
- when the image makes its purpose
- intuitively obvious.
- 4> wherever possible, try to imitate the
- standard Amiga icons.
- You can see that I held to these principles, by and large. There
- were only three standard icons that I replaced: Icon Edit, More, and Memacs.
- I did this because I felt Icon Edit was too large, More wasn't intuitively
- obvious, and Memacs was irrelevant to its icon. For my replacements, Icon
- Edit is similar, and I unified More and Memacs to be instantly recognizable
- with a Text File project icon I've been using.
- For the project-oriented icons, almost all are based on the original
- project icon in the Operating System (ver 2); that is, I snipped off the
- "Northeast" and "Southwest" corners. I also tried to make prefs projects
- similar to their tool counterparts. (That "intuitively obvious" part...)
- I won't pretend that my icons are superb works of art which all of
- us should sit back and admire. I've seen a few of those, and wow! are they
- something. They also tend to use at least 8 or 16 colors. In particular,
- I'm thinking of the icons which are used in Magic Menu v1.27. Absolutely
- gorgeous.
- On the other hand, my icons are simple and to the point; they get
- the job done without a lot of wondering, "well, what's THAT icon mean?".
-
- I hope you like and use these icons. If you have any suggestions
- or comments, feel free to reach me.
