  5. This file contains some overview information about the contents of the
  6. CD-ROM, followed by a concatenation of a bunch of individual Contents files
  7. on the CD-ROM.  Note that not all the material on the CD-ROM appears in a
  8. Contents file somewhere, so the list of programs found in this file is only
  9. a subset of what is actually on the CD-ROM.  As an example, none of the
  10. 180Mb or so of material under useful/dist appears here.  I'm still working
  11. on a better method for finding specific programs or types of programs.

  14. STRUCTURE OF THE CD-ROM
  15. -----------------------
  16.  
  17. The CD-ROM is divided into roughly three sections: (1) New material,
  18. which includes the material from the new unreleased floppy disks as
  19. well as material which does not appear in the floppy distribution, (2)
  20. useful utilities that can be used directly off the CD-ROM if desired,
  21. thus freeing up the corresponding amount of hard disk space, and (3)
  22. older material from previous released floppy disks or CD-ROM's.

  24. The portion of the disk dedicated to new material that I've not
  25. previously published on a CD-ROM or floppy disk is 107Mb, broken down

  62. Here are the current GNU distributions which are included in both source
  63. and binary form.  In most cases, they are the very latest distributions
  64. ftp'd directly from the FSF machines and compiled with the version of gcc
  65. included on this CD-ROM.  I have personally compiled all of the GNU
  66. binaries supplied on this CD-ROM, to verify that the compiler is solid and
  67. that the binaries are in fact recreatable from the supplied source code.

  122. Because there is only one previous Fresh Fish CD-ROM from which to rep-
  123. licate material from previous months, I've elected to use the contents of
  124. floppy disks 650-930 to fill that portion of the CD-ROM.  Some of these
  125. are only available in the archived (BBS ready) form.

  130. Comgraph    A powerful function plotter.  You can administer up to ten
  131.         functions at the same time, plot functions and their deriva-
  132.         tives, zoom these and calculate symbolic derivatives, zero
  133.         points, extreme points, turning points and saddle points,
  134.         poles and gaps.  Furthermore, you can calculate integrals
  135.         (integral, area, curve length, rotation volume, rotation
  136.         surface).  Contains a simple scientific calculator, linear
  137.         equation solver, prime factor reduction, and prime number
  138.         calculator.  High print quality.  English and German version
  139.         coexistant in one program.  Binary only, shareware.

  142. DynamiteWar    A tiny game for 2-5 players who fight against each other.
  143.         It is similar to the commercial Dynablaster or Bomberman,
  144.         except a 1-player mode is not available.  On the other hand,
  145.         there are a great number of extras.  To win the game, one
  146.         player has to disintegrate all other players by exploding
  147.         bombs.  Binary only, shareware.

  150. Modules        Command extensions for the M2Amiga V4.xx Modula-II Compiler
  151.         of A+L AG.  In about 13 Modules are over 410 importable
  152.         objects with 311 commands and functions, for programming
  153.         devices, graphics and intuition.  The are four Modules alone
  154.         covering graphics (GraphicsSupport, Copper, Fonts,
  155.         Simple3D), with a total of 140 commands.  Most modules
  156.         contain one or two demo programs showing sample usage.

  162. DynamicSkies    A big toolbox for astronomy that has, for an ultimate goal,
  163.         to answer with speed any question that may arise on celes-
  164.         tial objects.  For example, suppose you have an urge to
  165.         observe Jupiter tonight from your window; You may consult
  166.         rise/set times of Jupiter, ask when it crosses south-west
  167.         (supposing your window faces south-west), and with just a
  168.         mouse click have a glance at the simulated sky at this
  169.         time.  You may even animate Jupiter's path across the sky
  170.         with a time-step animation.  Of course, if you're a real
  171.         star gazer, don't forget your binoculars or telescope for
  172.         the real thing!  Version 1.0, binary only.

  175. Fleuch        A little game with more than five extra large stages.  The
  176.         object is to pickup up your cargo and climb safely to the 
  177.         next stage, without being shot or running into anything, 
  178.         (including your cargo!).  Scrolling, shooting, some gravi-
  179.         tation, similar to Thrust (C64).  Version 2.0, and update
  180.         to version 1.0 on disk number 760.  Binary only.

  183. StackMon    A program to monitor the stack use of other programs or
  184.         tasks.  Has a convenient GadTools front end.  Requires

  192. ConvertHAM    A utility to convert HAM picture files to ordinary ILBM

  197. EditKeys    A keymap editor.  Supports editing of string, dead and modi-
  198.         fiable keys, as well as control of repeatable and capsable

  204. GuiArc        A graphical user interface for cli-based archivers like lha,
  205.         arc, ape, zoo, etc.  It has the 'look & feel' of a directory
  206.         tool and can perform all basic actions on archives, such as
  207.         Add, Extract, List, Test, Delete, etc.  You can enter arch-
  208.         ives as if they were directories.  You don't have to know
  209.         anything about archivers.  Fully configurable.  Archivers
  210.         not included, requires AmigaDOS 2.0+.  Version 1.22, an
  211.         update to v1.10 on disk number 863.  Binary only, freeware.

  214. PhxAss        PhxAss is a complete macro assembler, which supports the
  215.         instruction-set and addressing modes of all important Moto-
  216.         rola processors (MC68000, 68010, 68020, 68030, 68040, 6888x
  217.         and 68851).  It understands all common assembler-directives
  218.         (Seka, Devpac, Metacomco, etc.) and can generate linkable
  219.         Amiga-DOS object files or absolute code.  In both cases the
  220.         user has the opportunity to choose between the large and
  221.         small code/data    model.  PhxAss is written entirely in
  222.         assembly language and works with Kickstart 1.2/1.3, OS2.x
  223.         and OS3.x.  Version V3.60, an update to version V3.30 on

  234. ShellMenus     A program to help Shell users be more prolific and save
  235.         time.  Shell Menus creates user definable menus that attach
  236.         to the Shell window.  Offers an intuition interface to edit
  237.         your menus instead of a text editor and many other features
  238.         not found in other programs that use menus.  Requires OS
  239.         2.04+, version 2.7, binary only.

  245. ABackup     A very powerful backup utility.  Has a full Intuition inter-
  246.         face, a "batch" mode, can save/load file selection, handle
  247.         HD floppies, use any external compression program, etc...
  248.         This new version adapts itself to the default font and
  249.         screen mode, and may be up to 40% faster than previous ver-
  250.         sions.  Includes French, German, and English versions.
  251.         Version 4.03, an update to v2.43 on disk 871.  Shareware,
  252.         binary only.

  255. AZap        A "new generation" binary editor, able to edit files, memory
  256.         or devices like floppy or hard disks.  It can open several
  257.         windows at the same time, is localized, and handles all OS
  258.         3.0 file systems.  Includes both French and English docu-
  259.         mentation.  Version 2.11, an update to version 2.04 on disk
  260.         number 875.  Binary only.

  263. PublicManager    Public screen tool which opens public screens that are
  264.         freely configurable (depth, size, font, ...) and have their
  265.         own menu (palette, quit, tools,...) Requires Kickstart 2.04

  270. ToolType    A program to make it easier to edit tooltypes in icons.
  271.         ToolType will read the tooltypes from an icon file and let
  272.         you use your favorite text editor to change or add to the
  273.         tooltypes.  Includes an option to sort the tooltypes alpha-
  274.         betically.  Version 37.206, requires OS2.0+, binary only.

  280. AmiCDROM    A CDROM disk filing system for the Amiga.  It supports the
  281.         ISO-9660 standard and the Rock Ridge Interchange Protocol.
  282.         The CDROM drive is mounted as a DOS device (e.g. CD0:).  You
  283.         can access files and directories on a CDROM disk by the
  284.         usual syntax, e.g. "type cd0:foo/readme.txt".  Version 1.7,
  285.         includes source.

  288. Badger        An icon management utility.  When you throw files on
  289.         Badger's appicon they get a new icon depending on which
  290.         pattern in Badger's list they match.  Version 1.1.

  293. ClipWindow    A program that makes it easy to put frequently used text on
  294.         the clipboard.  It opens an AppWindow on the Workbench which
  295.         accepts Project icons and associated text files.  The text
  296.         is copied to the clipboard ready for pasting.  Text may be
  297.         in a separate disk file or directly entered as Tool Types
  298.         in the Project icon.  Also included is ConPaste, a Commod-
  299.         ity by Carolyn Scheppner which allows pasting clipboarded
  300.         text almost anywhere.  AmigaDOS 2.0 or higher required.

  304. LazyBench    A little utility for lazy people with a hard disk crammed
  305.         full of goodies which are too difficult to reach because
  306.         they are buried away in drawers inside drawers inside
  307.         drawers inside drawers...  LazyBench installs itself as a
  308.         commodity, adds an item under the Workbench "Tools" menu
  309.         and waits in the background.  Use its hot key combination
  310.         to pop up its window and then select an item.  Now OS 2.xx
  311.         only and fully "User Interface Style Guide" compliant.
  312.         Font sensitive (uses the Default Screen Font) and each
  313.         gadget has a single key equivalent.  Version 1.12, an
  314.         update to version 1.10 on disk number 894.  Binary only.

  317. MuchMore    Another program like "more", "less", "pg", etc.  This one
  318.         uses its own screen to show the text using a slow scroll.
  319.         Includes built-in help, commands to search for text, and
  320.         commands to print the text.  Supports 4 color text in bold,
  321.         italic, underlined, or inverse fonts.  Can load xpk crunch-
  322.         ed files, has a display mode requester and is localized
  323.         (german catalog included).  Version 3.6, an update to ver-
  324.         sion 3.3 on disk number 895.  Includes source in Oberon-2.

  327. VirusChecker    A virus checker that can check memory, disk bootblocks, and
  328.         all disk files for signs of most known viruses.  Can remem-
  329.         ber nonstandard bootblocks that you indicate are OK and not
  330.         bother you about them again.  Includes an ARexx port, sup-
  331.         ports SHI's Bootblock.library.  By using this library and
  332.         its brainfile you have the ability to add new Bootblock
  333.         viruses as SHI release new brainfiles.  Version 6.33, an

  340. BaseConvert    GUI program to convert a number from one base to another.
  341.         Shows conversions between Decimal/Hex/Octal/Binary all
  342.         simultaneously.  Requires Kickstart 2.0 or higher.  Version
  343.         1.1, binary only.

  346. Spooler        Prints textfiles in the background.  Copying a file to the
  347.         SPOOL: directory is all that is required.  The program shows
  348.         you a list of files to be printed and gives you a report on
  349.         the file currently being printed.  Requires Kickstart 2.0
  350.         or higher.  Version 2.3, binary only.

  353. TKEd        TKEd is a very comfortable Intuition-based ASCII editor with
  354.         an english and german user-interface.  It can read texts
  355.         packed with PowerPacker, has user-definable menus, a com-
  356.         fortable AREXX interface with 116 commands, an interface to
  357.         some errortools for programmers, macros, undo, wordwrap,
  358.         supports foldings, has an online help mode, and many other
  359.         features.  TKEd is reentrant and can be made resident.
  360.         It's Kickstart 1.3/2.04 compatible, supports the new
  361.         ECS-screenmodes, an application window and checks itself
  362.         for linkviruses.  Version 1.17a, an update to version 1.11
  363.         on disk 781.  Evaluation version, with editing limited to
  364.         files 9999 lines and less.  Binary only, shareware.

  370. 64Door        A Commodore 64 Terminal emulator program which allows you to
  371.         call Commodore 64 BBS systems in the C64-specific color
  372.         terminal mode commonly referred to as C/G mode.  Written in
  373.         100% 68000 Assembly language.  Version 1.0, binary only,
  374.         public domain.

  377. Galactoid    A one or two player shoot-em-up game that resembles the old
  378.         arcade classics Galaga and Galaxian.  You must avoid and
  379.         destroy waves of dive-bombing enemies.  Written in 100%

  381.         maximum smoothness and playability.  Binary only, shareware.

  384. KingCON        A console-handler that optionally replaces the standard
  385.         'CON:' and 'RAW:' devices.  It is 100% compatible, but adds
  386.         some VERY useful features, such as: Filename-completion

  388.         scroll.  (FAAST output!)  Cursor-positioning using the
  389.         mouse; MC68020-optimized version; And more...  Version 1.0,

  393. Knit        Converts an IFF picture (8-colors or less) into a knitting
  394.         pattern.  For a specified stitch size, Knit will tell you
  395.         how many stitches per row are needed and how many rows are
  396.         used.  Knit bases all of its calculations on the size of a
  397.         standard monitor screen which means that your finished knit-
  398.         ting should be about the size of your screen.  (Thus, if you
  399.         have a extra large or small monitor, you may need to make
  400.         adjustments.)  Version 1.01, binary only.

  403. Megasquad    A two player game with two modes of gameplay:  Tag and Duel.
  404.         Features many different play boards, has music, sound, and

  409. WhereK        A highly configurable hard drive utility.  Features an auto-
  410.         matic disk cataloger with 3 modes, turns directories into
  411.         ascii files that can be saved and searched, allows other
  412.         programs to run while continuing in the background, creates
  413.         lists with versions of the libraries on your hard drive and
  414.         disks.  All files created can be saved.  Features 2 help
  415.         modes, individual help for keys and a comprehensive help
  416.         mode, both accessible from the program.  Runs on WB2.0+
  417.         except for the Library Versions Bulk Lister which requires
  418.         WB3.0 and above.  Version 3.0, binary only, freeware.

  424. Angie        ANother Great Intuition Enhancer commodity that offers about
  425.         100 Intuition related actions you may assign to multiple
  426.         arbitrary hotkeys.  Arbitrary DOS commands and input event
  427.         data may be assigned to the hotkeys too.  Furthermore, Angie
  428.         includes automatic window hunting, auto ActiveWinTask pri-
  429.         ority increment, 'TWA' type window remembering, auto Def-
  430.         PubScreen definition, etc.  Angie comes with a comfortable
  431.         Intuition user interface.  This is version 1.6, giftware,
  432.         includes source in Oberon-2.

  435. AppISizer    New, localized version of the AppIcon utility that gets the
  436.         size of disks, directories or files.  Gives the size in
  437.         bytes, blocks and the actual size occupied.  Supplied with
  438.         a French catalog.  Includes English documentation in Amiga-
  439.         Guide format and French documentation.  Also offers several
  440.         new enhancements.  Requires KickStart 37.175 or higher.

  443.         Author:  Gérard Cornu.

  445. DPU        Disk Peek and Update, a hex disk and file editor.  Functions
  446.         include show device info, show bitmap, check disk, zap file,
  447.         zap disk, zap filesystem and zap rigid disk blocks.  Version
  448.         1.5, an update to version 1.2 on disk number 721.  Binary
  449.         only, freeware.  Requires Release 2.04 or higher.

  452. Filters        A GUI-based RC Filter design program.  Allows you to set the
  453.         desired characteristics for either a high or low pass fil-
  454.         ter, calculate the required values, and display/print the
  455.         resultant phase/frequency graphs.  Version 1.2, binary only,
  456.         shareware.  Requires OS2.0+.

  459. MN3A        An antenna design program used to calculate currents, imped-
  460.         ance, and fields of wire antennas.  The wires may contain
  461.         lumped-constant loads.  Environment may be free space or
  462.         various groundtypes.  Version 1.0, binary only, freeware.

  465. PicCon        An aid for graphics programmers.  PicCon will use the data-
  466.         types library to load any picture format you've got support
  467.         for, and you will then be able to extract any part of the
  468.         picture and save it in your desired format.  Ordinary bit-
  469.         planes, "blitterlines", chunky pixels and various sprite
  470.         formats are supported.  The raw data can be saved as binary,
  471.         assembly or C source.  Saving of the palette entries in a
  472.         variety of formats is also supported.  Requires OS3.0.

  476. TurboLeusch    With the help of "Turbo-Leuschner" you are able to create
  477.         your own  menus for Workbench-based windows or expand
  478.         already existing menus.  Turbo-Leuschner supplies ALL

  1258.         Dillon's AmigaUUCP package.  It hangs on the specified
  1259.         serial port waiting for connections via the connected
  1260.         modem.  Once a connection is detected, AGetty provides
  1261.         a Login: request to the caller.  Getty disconnects any
  1262.         caller who cannot provide a legal login and Password
  1263.         within 60 seconds.  It also allows only 3 login attempts
  1264.         before disconnecting.  Any attempt to login with an illegal
  1265.         password will be written to the logfile.  Upon receiving
  1266.         a legal Login and Password, verified via the passw-file,
  1267.         AGetty will execute a specified program, usually UUCICO

  1634.         Sometimes you need 3 MB or more to convert a picture.  It
  1635.         is possible to specify memory-usage in the ADPro icon or
  1636.         from the shell but this can be awkward.  If you do not
  1637.         specify memory size, ADPro takes the largest free hunk of
  1638.         memory, and leaves you with only small hunks left.  This
  1639.         may result in loaders, savers and operators being loaded
  1640.         into chip memory, which is dead slow on an accelerated
  1641.         Amiga.  With ADProRunner you can easily control ADPro's
  1642.         memory usage each time you run it.  Version 1.0, binary

  2513.         programs look for.  Currently monitors the following

  2537.         it compresses its data and stores it in multiple files in

  2539.         standard to do the actual compression.  Version 37.5,

  2544.         xpkHUFF.library.  It's 100% 68000 and pc-relative & re-
  2545.         entrant, and it's FAST, and when I say fast, I mean REALLY
  2546.         fast.  It is not a replacement for HUFF but a further
  2547.         library called HFMN because the algorithm used is not 100%
  2548.         identical to the one of HUFF, therefore the HFMN data will
  2549.         not decrunch with HUFF and vice versa.  Version 1.16, binary
